Smooth trip down on April 2, until the Cayman Airways Twin Otter didn’t work. We stayed a night on GCM at Comfort Suites on CayAir, then a 7:00 flight that was late by a quarter hour the next morning and we were there. The meal voucher for the layover was under-whelming. Basically, we traded the gourmet meal with two drinks we had paid for at LCBR for a $50.00 voucher (at a place we don’t like), with no alcohol included in the voucher. We went across the street to Coconut Joe’s instead. And, no concern from CayAir that we were potentially missing two dives.
We did the afternoon dive on April 3, no sense hurrying to get on the morning boat. So far the staff and diving with Reef Divers has been splendid. They had held back a boat for those of us who had been on the canceled flight. Class.
The food at LCBR is top-notch and the staff is also friendly and welcoming.
The marine life seems plentiful and healthy, too. We’ve seen more Queen Trigger fish than ever, a few lionfish, tons of grouper and huge lobster.
I’ll attach a picture or two. More will follow later.
Here a lionfish
And a grouper at a cleaning station
Cheers!

Great start! I love your pictures!

Sorry things got off to a bad start. Pictures are great! Looking forward to more. Hope the rest of your trip is wonderful!
Shelly ?
Are you splitting your time between LC and GC? Enjoy!
Hi All,
More pics to follow, 3stoogesmom! The wireless here at LCBR works well, so they upload relatively fast.
No worries Shelly about the poor start from Cayman Air. I suppose mechanical things are going to break and it was better to ground the flight than take off with a sick plane.
Hey NSS, How’s it going? Yep, we’re doing a week here on Little C and then we’ll hop the Cay Air Twin Otter back to Grand for a week on SMB diving with Neptune’s.
Gotta go, breakfast time approaches.

OK. Another perfect day of diving. The seas have been rolly on the south so we have been going around the point to Bloody Bay Wall where the rolling was much lessened. Today, it was much better on the south and around to the north it was real calm.
Dives were Mixing Bowl, Jackson’s Reef and Wall and Bush Gardens.
Following should be a few pics of the smaller stuff. Big fishes are cool, but the smaller things have such cool contrasts of colors and textures.
A shot of some reef critters…

And one of some sponge with brittle stars crawling about on them…

Finally a pair of Christmas tree worms on some coral.

After the third dive we walked to the airport to check out the Hungry Iguana for a possible lunch on a later day. We figured it would do us good to walk off some of the superb food we’ve been shoveling down. Looked pretty good to us. My only complaint was that they had all the view of the sea, and no view of the airport. Poor taste if you ask me…!
As before, the folks here are great and we love the dive staff. They will guide you if you want, or let you self-guide after their thorough briefing. We expected a top-notch after having been to the Brac Reef Beach Resort run by the same folks and we have not been disappointed.
The dinner bell’s ring is imminent… more will follow.

Hey DS,
Thanks for this real-time trip report. Beautiful photos. I’m so glad to read you’re having perfect days of diving. Now go get wet again!! :split:
Here’s a few more pics.
Now, I know that they say don’t touch the marine life, but the grouper actually come and rub up against you. I started by keeping my hand still and it leaned into my hand like a puppy leaning into a rub. Next thing you know, it is schmoozing up and getting a chin rub. Mrs DS had a grouper keep running into her leg until she reached down and rubbed it.

And then, there are the turtles. We saw so many young ones on Marilyn’s Cut on Bloody Bay Wall that we actually got a bit tired of them. They, too, were curious and this one came over to check us out…

We passed up a wreck dive to the Tibbetts yesterday. We’ll do the Kittiwake with Casey at Neptune’s next week so we didn’t want to do one here. We’re not too much into wrecks, but it’ll be fun to do the Kittiwake now when it is new and then again in a few years to compare pictures of marine growth.
Dives are routinely including shark, huge parrotfish, tons of different fishes in addition to the aforementioned turtles and grouper. Oddly, anemone are scarce around Bloody Bay Wall and Jackson’s Bight. Don’t know why, just the way it is. We did find a few today at Nancy’s Cup of Tea with a small clinging crab hiding in it.

‘Nuff for now. We’ll try to shoot a few pics of the resort area for posting later tonight, but I suppose there are tons of good photos of it on their website if we don’t fit it into our hectic schedule….
Lovin’ it! Love the grouper story, too! Thanks for sharing…keep it comin’…
:jump: OMG, amazing! Just another day or so & hopefully I can “smooze” w/a grouper.
the pictures are wonderful, by the way….
Reefgirl, I’m excited for you! Safe travels! Looking forward to your own trip report.
DS,
Excellent report!! :clapping:
The wife keeps trying to get me to pry the wallet open for a trip to LC, so I hope she doesn’t see your report. It will just add fuel to the fire. ?
Luvin the photos, DS! Can’t wait to see you and Mrs. DS in a few days ?
