Cayman law forbids dive gloves. (Having bare hands tends to encourage divers to not touch stuff :thumb: )

Ouch. good to know. Thanks. Guess my little fingers will just have to get used to the water. ?

As a bonus, without gloves you can find some cleaner shrimp and have them give you a manicure…. ?
Ooooo Good Idea. Wish I had them now after spending the day wooding.

Mrs DS loves finding a couple of the banded coral shrimp and letting them crawl on her fingertips. She imagines they are giving her a manicure and who knows, maybe they are! In any case, it is really a cool thing.

We will be coming to GC for the first time next week…2 adults and 2 older teens. We are staying in a condo so we are able to have breakfast, lunch and snacks in the condo. We will be going out to diner. Is the price of food so expensive on the island that we should try to pack some things? What about liquor? is it best to buy rum in GC or the dutty free shop in the airport? Do the stores carry most of the things the stores in the states do…english muffins..cereal..pasta..snacks? Thanks for any help!!
The stores are huge and very well stocked….just like the large supermarkets at home.
I posted a list of some of the things we purchased at the grocery store-when looking at the prices, remember that they are cayman dollar prices so in US dollars,it would be 25% more
click here for grocery list and prices
I usually throw in some spices,so I don’t have to buy whole bottles down there—although they do have some smaller packages of spices.
Many people pick up some duty free liquor in Miami, but we just bite the bullet and buy what we want in Cayman. Liquor and beer are pretty expensive there.
Liquor prices are probably more than the list indicates-They have added additional duties on liquor.
Have a great time and if you have any other questions, be sure to post them.
Shelly ?
I usually buy wine or liquor (I’m partial to coconut rum) at the airport duty free just before catching the flight to GC, and then again on the way home, usually grabbing some Baileys. Shelly is right, the supermarkets are just like at home, except the prices are higher. Bring stuff down that is easy to pack to save some money. I bring down spices, a can of spam, granola bars…
Ant :palm:
We just got back. We totally packed incorrectly. Bathing suits and t-shirts from wake up until dinner. Then shorts and a collared shirt. Flip flops all day. I brought too few t-shirts, too many collared shirts (some days we were exhausted and ate at the hotel). No long pants or sweat shirts needed
that is GREAT information. Thank you! I was wondering what we should be packing, and I figured one nice outfit per person and the rest are bathing suits and water shoes ! LOL
That’s about right-I always take too much. Attire has turned pretty casual as it has here in the states.
We just booked our rental with economy. So that was last step.
Hopefully no snowstorms cause delays.
Any more advice on what to bring? We are arriving Feb 24 and the weather says 80’s . Should we pack evening sweaters etc?
Going to do some last minute shopping.
I just wish to be prepared.
Buy all the booze you can in duty free shop in airport before your flight into Cayman ?
Too funny. I won’t be bringing beef. LOL Maybe some small bottles of wine for the for the first day. How strong of sunscreen?? I know hawaii it was at least a 30. I may bring some snacks and we both got new underwater cameras. My husband got the wide angle lense for his.
I haven’t needed anything with long sleeves at night this year….but I always bring a long sleeve cotton top if I am somewhere with air conditioning
