Outstanding DS!!
What a great trip report, DS! Thanks for the photos…the eagle ray photos are A-MAZ-ING!
Please say hi to Mrs. DS.
Thanks Mike and Sal. I got over 5 minutes of turtle video today. The turtle actually nosed right up to the camera lens and then pushed off the camera and my hand as it went past. Way cool!
Sal, we saved some good diving for you and RB. Casey and crew are ready and waiting for you to get here.
Cheers!
DS, looking forward to being back on the island very much! Sorry we’ll miss you and Mrs. DS. I’m glad your trip has been so good.
You took a lot of great pictures, and we really enjoyed them. My dive camera flooded a couple years ago and I switched to video. Your shots reminded me of the images I was able to get with my Sealife Camera and single strobe. I like your technique. We are heading to GC in a couple of weeks. Staying 3 nights on the north end of SMB and then five more nights near Rum Point. We are really looking forward to the trip as it has been a few years since our last visit.
Hey Blaze!
I flooded my camera in 2011 and got a new one there at Cathy Church’s. Ouch, but it was time for a new one anyway! We got a new strobe this year that plays nicer with our Olympus XZ-1. It meters better automatically and I can also adjust its intensity if I see a picture over-expose. It has made life a lot easier!
I assume you’ll be diving your butts off.
Have a great trip and safe diving.
This was your best group of dive pics yet! I wish I could get close-ups like that. Bonnie gave me a new camera for our anniversary but I haven’t had a chance to try it out as yet. We’re busy with the turtles again…. just recently had our first nest of the season.

Thanks brakker1. The new strobe really is nice. I like to be able to see the picture when it gets saved, and then adjust the strobe up or down to give better brightness. The old strobe was 1990s technology and I couldn’t adjust intensity with it.
Glad the turtle nesting has begun. Post some pictures of the little fellers if you get a chance!

I’ll try to get some emergence pics, but it’s gonna be about seven weeks before they start hatching. Nests are made May through July.
Lovely photos. Thank you for sharing…
I’m really enjoying your “live” posts! Keep ’em coming…Thanks!
Thanks, and I will!
I saw your post on the scuba place’s board. Great detail and it is obvious you’re done plenty of Cayman shore diving. We’re going to do some from shore over the next few days, too. Your dive details are great and, shamelessly, we might use your report to plan a few dives of our own!
Cheers
Hey Sarge,
we’re heading down in a few weeks. Do you have your next trip planned yet? We’d love to run into y’all for some diving and hang time.
Bummer. We’re gonna miss by a few weeks. We’ll get lucky and overlap one of these times. It’d be great to meet you and dive together.
Save some rum for us!
Enjoy your trip as well. It’ll be time to pull the boats out of storage shortly after returning up north though!

No kidding. The Great Lakes are under 50% now on the ice cover.
Still, we run ours on northern lake Michigan so we won’t launch until late June.
The dockhands in Straits State Harbor in Mackinaw City said they had ice in the marina past memorial Day last year.

We still have ice, but we start running winery cruises on May 8th. With maintenance items and outfitting figured in, We need 2-3 weeks to get them ready for sea trials, drills and customers!
Here’s hoping for a mild and dry spring!
