You sure hit a nerve with the pasport story. It sounds like the whole application and issuance of them is a boondoggle.
Spiritman is right, one more thing to thank the terrorists for.
I guess the passport thing shows that there is nothing so fouled up that it can’t be made worse by bureacracy! Ya gotta love the government, sometimes it can foul up a one car parade.
Anyway, thanks for sharing the saga. It’ll undoubtably get others going well ahead of time to get theirs and they’ll know how to follow up if there is a delay.

Oh my goodness, what a story! My family of four only needed one more passport for our 10 year old and I started as soon as I found out we were traveling to Cayman. I paid the “expedited” fee right off the bat. (hey, my husband was in the Army for 20 years…I KNOW how the government works)
Hey CaymanTwins, I will watch for you on the beach – we are overlapping a few days on our trips! I hope you have a fabulous time! Sounds like you and your family are well deserving of the time off.
Ok, obviously I put this in the wrong place. Can someone please move my message to Caymantwins discussion about passports…..”Darn Newbies!”
Where are you staying?
I still am without passport, and I am no more calm about it! I keep checking online, but my information won’t pop up. I checked for my kids online and they popped up right away.
There is a line on their website “Note: If your information (last name, date of birth, and last four digits of your Social Security Number) matches more than one record in our database your record will not appear online.” Does anyone know if this refers to a passport that is being renewed? The kids were getting their first passports, and I am renewing mine. Has anyone else been able to track a renewed passport online?
They have cashed my check. I suppose that’s a good sign. I’ll cross my fingers and hope that my email is returned soon. I suppose I’ll start pestering them by phone next week.
Thanks in advance,
Allison
This must be so stressful as your vacation gets closer. No experiences to relate regarding renewed passports, just wanted to give you a little support and wishes for a speedy appearance!
Shelly ?
It took 5 weeks for my husband and mine’s renewal passports applications to show up online. It was on exactly the same day as our daughter’s initial passport application showed up online. They are not giving an estimated date now. They simply state “You should receive your passport 10 weeks from the date you submitted your application.”
If it came down to me making a 3 hr trip to Chicago, which I most certainly do not want to do – especially with a 3 y.o. and a 2 y.o., does anyone know if I can do anything without my old passport? They have my old passport and birth certificate with my application.
Crying,
Allison
there were long lines in Chicago to get passports before spring break-don’t know if it’s eased up-but there was an article in the chicago tribune about it.
Good luck
Shelly ?
I will call again tomorrow, and I will be e-mailing daily.
AAAAAAGH!
Allison
It is a good idea for everyone to get a passport, whether or not you think you will be traveling in the near future.
They are also great forms of ID in the US. I recently applied for a massage therapist license in a new city in my California county. I had two choices for forms of acceptable ID:
1. My passport
2. My driver’s license, birth certificate AND social security card (all 3)
It doesn’t hurt to have a passport that you are not using. I keep mine locked in a safe when I am not needing it for travel or ID.
