Well I wound up double posting and unfortunately am having a bit of a glitch with my moderator controls, perhaps it’s the rain and the wind but in any event it is pretty nifty to watch the waves and the lightening on the water, I know that’s not what someone coming to a beach paradise wants to hear but this storm will soon pass and I’m sure by the middle of next week we will be back to sunny days, hopefully by Sunday even!

Our first vacation to the Caymans it rained the whole week, but we were in such need of a vacation it did not matter. We still smoked cigars and snorkled in the rain. I will take what I can get !

Well the storm is slowly clearing up, it came up from the south and hit me with a vengeance as we are ground zero for any storms from that direction. We lost the transformer out front it blew up at 6 a.m. and we seem to be experiencing leaking through our walls and front windows so that we are in puddles of about an inch of water in our bedroom and living room ? but still these things happen and at least the power is back up although we can’t use most of our electrical sockets as they seem to be filling with water as well ?

sigh such is life still it is paradise, now if I could just get all these soggy wet towels dry I’d be a happy little camper

    Cindy,

I thought about you this morning when the wind began to howl! We didn’t lose power her in Old Man Bay, but in order to get to the road, I had to cut across our lawn and our neighbor’s lawn to get to McCoy Lane, It only has 8-10″ of standing water, as opposed to the 24″ in our driveway!

I’ve spent most of the time since Tuesday calming my dog-friend, Sable, who, since Ivan, has no love of storms.

Sue, I can sympathize with you and the doggy problem. Our little dog hates storms as well and the minutes he hears the faitest rummbling of thunder he starts to freak out on me. Poor babies, I am sure if we had their intuitions, we’d be more frightened than we are.

Cindy so sorry to hear about your water issue’s as well. I know you must be about to pull your hair out! That has got to be an uncomfortable and most definately frustrating time.

Sue – I was fretting about you and hoping you weren’t stranded! I hope Sable recovers soonly from any weather fears! Good thing this came up from the south and not the north!

Jana – at least I have power again and the towels are dry and the sun is coming out! Not sure about the poor electrical sockets or the paint job on the wall that is ocean side but these things can be changed. Better to find out about them during a small storm rather than a hurricane!

It looks like it’s finally clearing up. I just finished swimming 100 laps, after spending an hour cleaning all the debris out of our overflowing pool. :spin:

Joe – and that’s why we keep telling people to not worry too much when it rains here because you can be in one place and it’s clear and another just a mile or so away and it is pouring, we had a full type moon and now it is just spitting down again and you are just a couple of miles away and probably clear as a bell!

That’s what I love about rainy season here, you can literally be on one side of the street and be in sunshine and be across the street and be in a cloud burst! As to the 100 laps, geeeeeesh I’m worn out just thinking about it but admire that you keep doing it :clapping:

Cindy: I admire your attitude and ability to “roll with it”. I’m afraid I’d be freaking out if water were spouting from everywhere. ? When we were in GC, I commented to my husband that the weather guys – or whoever decides these things – did an excellent job designating June 1st as the beginning of hurricane season. I don’t believe we saw a drop of rain on our trip until June 1st! It was as if someone finally turned on the faucet! From that point on, we experienced quite a bit. However, we also enjoyed breaks in between where we could squeeze in some snorkeling and running around the island. My husband I actually enjoyed the heavy downpours when they came, along with the thunder and lightening. We just don’t see much of that in Southern California, so it was actually somewhat of a treat for us. The speed at which the weather changes is also amazing. :spin: I really do hate to see how the thunder and lightening affects the animals, though. Poor things think the world is coming to an end.

We just saw on the news a few minutes ago that GC has received 23 inches of rain between 6/6 and today!! Wow, I guess we didn’t see the half of it!!

Northside Sue: I looked for your condo complex while we were there, but could never find it. I thought you said it was called Northpointe Condos and, if I remember correctly, the picture I saw on the internet was a pinkish stucco color??? I remembered that you had mentioned that you were either remodeling or rebuilding so I thought maybe the place had been painted. Hope all is finished and just how you like it.

Joe: 100 laps! Keep up the good work. With all of your dieting and working out, you must look like Jack La Lanne by now….well, except much younger, of course! Oops, guess I shouldn’t admit to knowing who Jack La Lanne is…….. :gosh:

    Karen2,

If you drove from where you were staying to Rum Point, you did see our building. It was a pink frame building, but is now a green and white stucco fortress!. It’s the building right before the Driftwood.

Agree. Last yr. the forecast a few days before our 10 day vacation was for storms most of the vacation, with the famous black cloud sign and 60-90% chances. We almost cancelled! I looked back at the live cams for the past 48 hrs., and compared it with the forecasts, seeing that it had not been cloudy and rainy. We went ahead with our plans, had PERFECT weather the entire stay with a brief passing shower maybe twice. Outstanding weather and vacation. Arriving next week for another fabulous 10 day visit. Counting down the days…. :spin:

We did indeed get about 2 feet of rain but you have to remember we are a bit of a porous rock around here so 2 feet of water while certainly causing some localized flooding, doesn’t hang around here for very long, it tends to drain off fairly rapidly (unless it’s pouring into your condo from leaking bits ? ) so while in other places 2 feet would be absolutely devastating around here it’s pretty easy to handle.

Sue Cindy Joe, wishing you warm sun to dry out your homes.

Need a maid to clean up?

I must add I am still jealous that you are all in Cayman…and I am not. :crying:
