My boyfriend wants to explore the “jungle” section of the island. Anybody done that? In February? ?

I’ve been there in February too and the weather was excellent!

Make sure you get to the Botanic Garden-you’re pretty close to it! They also have an iguana tour that I’ve never been to, but thought I might like to do that one of these years. You’d have to check the times and days for that.

Also we took a guided tour thru the Mastic Trail and I thought it was very interesting. You’re pretty close to where they start the tour too. It’s thru the Cayman National Trust.

Hope you have a wonderful time.

    Shelly ?

Thanks Shelly! We definitely want to go on some trails and check out as much as we possibly can. I really want to do some horseback riding on the beach. I’d also love to see the stingray’s and all the iquanas. Are they everywhere?

The little lizards are everywhere but not the big blue iguanas. They have a breeding program at the Botanic Garden, and I think they tell you all about that on the iguana tour.

If you go on the Mastic Trail, I would suggest a guide if you like finding out about things-otherwise it’s just walking a trail….there is no info posted along the way. But if you just like walking and looking you could do that too. The guide told us to start at the North end near Over the Edge restaurant and go about a mile in until you get to the big yellow mastic tree. There is a sign there. He said that at the south entrance it can get muddy. So we just walked the mile in and the mile back. It’s a little rocky in places.

I think Joe has a post about the Mastic Trail and in my trip report this year I took pictures. Go to page 2 after you click on this link if you are interested in seeing the pictures

Thanks! I’m putting together an itinerary right now. I’d love to also do the horseback riding but it seems so expensive! ?

We are scheduled to land on Feb. 4th and have bio-luminescent tour at 11PM that night. We just checked the weather and it looks like it will be raining that evening.

How has the weather been this last week and how do you think it will hold up the week of Feb. 4-10th?? We’re a bit anxious that they might cancel our excursion, which I can understand if it’s too rough, but it would be a big disappointment.

    Thanks!

We never really fret about the weather. Yes, sometimes it gets socked in with rain but mostly it seems that a rain shower will pass through and then go away. Often, it will rain hard in an area but just a mile or two away it’ll be dry.

Generally February is the dry season.
