|George's Kayaks Mangrove and Bio Bay Eco Tours
George's Kayaks is now offering a new mangrove kayak tour that takes you into the heart of a mangrove forest. Kayak through a mangrove forest that is conveniently situated just five minutes away from hotels along Seven Mile beach. You are given the unique opportunity to snorkel inside the mangrove forest once inside the forest, where you will be able to experience a different perspective of the mangroves by peering between their roots that are submerged in the sea, allowing you to appreciate the complexity of the mangrove root system that you cannot understand from sitting on a kayak. The snorkelling is optional.
You will follow your guide into a secluded inlet in the mangrove forest where he will explain the importance of the mangroves, and how they provide protection to Cayman’s coastline during storms and hurricanes, and how the mangroves act as a nursery for juvenile fish. This tour is great for anyone who loves the outdoors and wildlife; you will see a wide variety of birds such as the “Cayman Parrot” and the “Cattle Egret”; marine life such as juvenile tarpon, school master snapper and juvenile barracudas; the invasive green iguanas, and fortunately, there are no poisonous or dangerous animals or bugs in the mangrove forest in the Cayman Islands!
There are hundreds of Cassiopeia (“upside-down”) jellyfish that live on the floor of the shallow waters that surround the mangroves. Your passionate guide will catch one, and show you how they don’t sting, due to its surrounding environment. You will then be given the chance to hold a Cassiopeia jelly fish with your bare hands on our Cayman kayak tour.
Whilst snorkelling inside the mangrove forest, you will be able to gaze through the dense and intricate mangrove root system that is the submerged portion of the mangrove forest. You will notice lots of small fish living within the mangrove roots. The mangroves are a nursery for young fish, since the juvenile fish are protected from outside predators. The mangrove roots act as a defence for young fish, as the juvenile fish hide behind the dense roots. Whilst snorkelling, you will see large schools of school master snapper, occasionally travelling between the different sections of the mangrove roots.
Unlike other Cayman mangrove kayak excursions, we journey THROUGH the mangroves, and not just around them. There is a tunnel that goes all the way through the mangrove forest, which is naturally occurring. We are the only Cayman kayak tour that takes you into the heart of the mangrove forest.
Situated just five minutes away from Seven Mile beach, George's Kayaks offers a tour that is not only unique, but is also much more close to most people staying near or on Seven Mile beach. Other Cayman kayak tour operators would make you drive an hour away to the other side of the island for a mangrove kayak tour that doesn’t even take you inside the mangrove forest.
George's Kayaks offers free pick-up for any hotel guests staying along/near Seven Mile Beach (groups of 8 people or less), and even if you have your own car, but are confused about the location of to the Cayman Islands Yacht Club, we can still drive to your hotel/condo, and you can then follow us in your own vehicle.
George is enthusiastic and experienced in what he does, delivering a professional, unforgettable kayaking or paddle-boarding experience to every guest. George was born and raised in Grand Cayman, and has kayaked through this mangrove forest since he was a young child. Your guide provides an exciting and informative narrative covering Cayman’s ecology and history, highlighting scenes of interest and revealing interesting facts about the unique wildlife that you will see on our mangrove kayak tour Cayman.
