I am trying to find out about some land on the Bluff in Cayman Brac. I'm in the UK and I can't get over there. I wondered if anyone knows any way I can find out about it - what it's like, what it's worth, etc?

Merry Christmas, Jayne!
Try Island Realty and Tranquil Realty websites. They have pretty good coverage.

Hi, do you live over there? Tried to PM you but it won't let me - because I'm new I think.

Yes, I started coming to the Brac in 1986 and came to stay in 2007. Best move I ever made. Wifey and I are visiting family in Florida at present but will be back home Saturday. You can get information from the Island Realty or Tranquil Realty websites concerning property.

CAG doesn't let newcomers use their mail for a while, nor permit e-mail or website addresses to be posted. I read the forum frequently so perhaps we can communicate here.

Basically I'm buying a plot and I've now been told by someone else that there's a good chance it's useless swampland and not worth what I paid for it :-/ Without going there (which I can't do) I don't know how I can find out. Any advice would be gratefully received!

Jayne,
Post the lot and parcel numbers.... or whatever information you have, and I will check it out. There is no "swampland" on the bluff! If possible, I would like to know the seller.

Why? What's happening? It was nearly 3 years ago - are they still selling the same plots??? I threatened legal action and got my money back but it was hard work :/

HELLO, JAYNE! I am glad you were able to get your money back from those people. As of this date there has been no homes built in Selworthy Estates that I am aware of. Three homes are now on the bluff edge near there. The picture shown by the Lund Team on the internet is a blatant fake.

I just don't know how they are getting away with this! They must have ripped so many people off.

It was very difficult - I had to get a whole ton of evidence together - I scoured the internet to get as much info as I could - I spoke to the land people in the Caymans, and built a whole case against them. Then they refunded me.

Are they still selling the plots for the same amount of money then? Or have they just sold them all and disappeared with everyone's money? I was told the land wasn't worth a penny.

Several "streets" have been blacktopped and telephone poles (no wiring) have been put in and there is an isolated tennis court in the area, but nothing else that I am aware of. I have no information on prices. I assume they are dishonest and certainly unethical. The area is somewhat isolated...... not near any beach or businesses. "Isolated" would be a good definitive term for the whole area.

Various "land" deals are being offered in the Caymans. I have never seen local ads concerning Selworthy Estates. The scammers seem to prefer the internet.
I don't know if any Caymanians are a part of the Selworthy Estates sales or not.
My advice to prospective buyers: Deal with a reputable broker and personally check out the property.

Why would you buy land you have never seen or did I miss something?

cr26cr,
I assume they buy because some of the sellers have great-looking websites and honest-sounding salesmen. In fact, a person recently bought an ocean front lot very close to me, sight unseen, but he did have someone he trusted check it out for him. I do not know his purchase price but the lot is similar to mine which I paid 80,000 eight years ago.
