we had to bring down some new chairs for the lanai, so Harv spent a lot of time on the phone with CAL folks, in Cayman and Miami. So when we appeared at the CAL desk at O’Hare, the woman said “I have an e-mail about you and your chairs!”
They were stacked 2 together and bubble-wrapped. Had we not made the calls, we probably would have had to pay extra because they were oversized. But the plane was not very full, so all was well.
We landed on time in Cayman
How wonderful to get back to North Pointe!
We did our usual vacation routine, visiting friends, walking the beach, snorkeling from the Sea Lodges at Cayman Kai all the way to Rum Point, spending time at the Driftwood and Over the Edge.
We also ate at Portofino’s, the Lighthouse, the Kaibo Yacht Club (which Daniel Petts purchased from the Fosters), the Cracked Conch, and the new South Shore Bar and Grill (just west of the Lighthouse.
Frank (from Driftwood) loaned us his truck after our friends left on Jan. 13th. Why rent when you can drive this luxury vehicle?
We also went with Frank to a new spot in Morgan Harbor.
Here are some views of the boat trip from Kaibo.
An interesting bit of info I picked up is that the whole point at Ivory Kai has been sold and will be the location of 30 or so luxury condos!
The new building looks different, but some things are still the same, the beach glass sign I made:
And our beach:
We were sad to leave on the 27th, but had a wonderful time seeing old friends and enjoying the warm weather and clear sea.
The trip home was not so uneventful, as the windshield developed a spider web crack and we had to turn back and land in Tampa. Harv and I only had carry ons, so we were the first ones through immigration and customs. The poor, frazzled woman at the CAL counter told us she was at home in her pajamas when they called her back. They got us a room at the airport Marriott and booked us on an American flight at 8:20 Sunday morning.
Can’t wait to begin planning our next trip.
I had never made the connection that I knew his Dad. Last names are rarely used here.
But what a great experience!
So glad you had a great trip. Now I’m counting the days till we go !!!!!!!!!!
I am going to go to NorthePOinte just so I can see that lovely sign you made.
What is that South Shore Place like?
I almost missed your posts. I was waiting for them to show up on the “posts since last visit’ page or in the trip report section but didn’t see them. I searched you up and found you here.
We really enjoyed meeting you and Harv. It was good to see Frank again, too. I met him a few years ago when we stayed in Harv’s Kai. Dad always spoke highly of him.
Northpointe looks beautiful. I’m pleased to see it back in shape and being enjoyed. It must have been miserable having it damaged, not to mention having to keep tabs on construction from so far away. The letter from you and Harv was waiting for us upon our return. We’ll be hanging onto it for future use. We have your email, too. I think it was in your letter, if not I think I have it on file here. (It is at sbcglobal, right?)
Yep, the bandana keeps my hair-do from getting mussed! Good thing, too, since I have the same hair style as dad did. (Think about that for a minute!) I hope you liked the group photo on my trip report, bandana and all.
Welcome home! Happy to see the new chairs in the patio and happy to hear you had a wonderful time. Thanks for posting a few photos!
Kelly and I drove past the South Shore Bar & Grill a few times and wondered how it was? Any feedback from your visit?
Glad to hear that North Pointe has been re-done. We stayed at Harv’s in Feb/Mar 2004, before Ivan.
Miss the island very much and hope to get back there soon.
All the best,
My first post…but been reading a long while. Thanks to everyone posting their experiences…makes planning a trip so much easier!
My older son enjoyed snorkeling with me our last trip down…but that has been 2 years. Would Eden’s Rock be “OK” to try after getting him back in the groove at some of the easier spots? I really would like to go out there and think he would as well…
Hey Sue…I think we are going to be at the same place at the same time! I’ll get a rum punch ready for your arrival! I have a friend from work who will be there as well…she has family that live “5 minutes from there” but I am not quite sure of the exact location.
I am SO very ready!!!
Which unit are you in? I’ll be in #100. See you next Sunday!
We are in 203! Til then…
Finally!!! The boys are “pinging”…I am SO done packing…I have taken a “spiritual day” from work! I am honoring Dionysus and Helios, the Greek gods of wine and sun!
You guys up for dominoes or cards (spades, hearts…) one evening?
You take ‘spiritual days’ and I take ‘mental health days!
After I posted that I realized it must be a “festival” time…after all I can continue my “worship” for the next 2 weeks non stop in Cayman!!!
