    ccobb,

I knew that was an option, but I believe the CAG rules say no links to external sites.. So, I haven’t even tried this option figuring it would get removed.

    Thanks,

    Rich

Okay, I am sorry, I guess ignorance is no excuse. I will delete from this thread, however- can’t edit previous ones. That is shame, since I was able to do a video, but can’t do it without linking!

    ccobb,

I agree that linking is a good option and would like to do it as well, however, I believe it has been said that links are not supposed to be used to other sites because of “copyright” issues.

I think if we are linking to our own photobucket or something else, it should be okay. Maybe Joe or a Moderator can explain the rules better. I may not be stating the rules right and I am sure there is a reason that they can explain better than me.

As far as editing our posts, I am not sure why that isn’t allowed after a very short time. Seems like if I wrote it, I should be able to edit it even after a week to fix issues. But, again, I am not the admin or a moderator and I am not sure why this is the case.

Thanks Rich, I did delete this link till we get clarification. I truly love the forum and do not intend to do anything to make problems. So I guess I will just wait and see for now! I know Joe saw my video and did not tell me not to link it, so do not know.

First of all, I want to thank both of you, ccobb and rjsimp, for being so conscientious about following the rules here. :clapping:

I’ll try to clarify what I can for you. I believe that it’s ok to post a link to a site like photobucket. We have allowed that in many instances. It’s probably not a very good way for you to do it, though, since I think that anyone can then look at all your pictures in all your albums (I think). But, anyway, that would be ok.

There are a few reasons that outside links, in general, aren’t allowed. Sometimes people want to post links to other tourism sites, which in effect, would be competitors of the Activity Guide and this board. Another reason is that Joe wants everything that people learn and read about here to be about places that he has personally inspected and recommends. Those are most often the advertisers of the magazine. He doesn’t want a recommendation to a place that he knows nothing about to come from within this board by way of a link. I don’t think I’m explaining it very well, and I’m sure Joe could give you a much better answer.

I don’t really understand the limit on editing your own posts except that I understand that’s normal on other message boards. It’s just new here.

The good news is that all the glitches have been fixed that were preventing people from posting pictures. Pictures can now be as large as 640 pixels wide, and image tags can be directly pasted into your posts (just like before) and if you choose to use the Image Icon, it’s now working again. The only thing that hasn’t been fixed, and I’m not sure that it can be, is the fact that all pictures in posts that were larger than 600 pixels are still teensy tiny. I suppose that if people go into their Photobucket accounts and try to repost them at 640 x 480, they will show up.

    Char,

This is good to know about the links (sorry to alarm you ccobb 😳). It would be helpful in some cases to post a link to photobucket and just put some “thumbnails” on the forum. That way people can see them in larger size and detail. I knew there was issues with links, and I appreciate the clarification.

Whatever the edit time limit is set to, it may be a tad too fast.. Seems that posts should be editable for at least a few days. But this was the least of my worries. I know that if i find a problem/error that a moderator can help me get it edited.

Thanks again Char for all your help and clarification!

I didn’t mind anyone looking at my photobucket as I just put pics there that I didn’t care if people saw, so that is good. I am glad the problem is fixed. Because I was just learning when I did my trip report, my photos must have been the 640 varitey, and still are very tiny, so I can’t tell which ones I need to resize so that they will show up. Once you resize in photobucket you can’t undo, and I took so many pics, it will take a long time to click around trying to find the right ones to resize so they will show up again. Any suggestions.

    ccobb,

Well, if you can’t edit your post any longer and see the tags, then the easiest way (although technical) way to see which images are being referenced is to go to your Trip report and while viewing a page where your photos are shown, right click your mouse on the web page (someplace other than the images) and select “View Source”..

An editor will show up to show you the source for the web page. All you need to do is search for “photobucket.com” and you’ll see all your references which will include the image names.

Then of course, just go to photobucket and resize those ones to 640×480 and you’re set :thumb:

If you have problems, I would be happy to go through your post and tell you the ones that you are using, but if you can do it yourself, it is always better so you know how next time. 😉

    ccobb,

I feel your pain….. 😆 . I just now finished going through my trip report and resized all of my pictures in Photobucket to 640 x 480. I also had a real hard time trying to figure out which pictures I was looking for! I have all my original photos backed up, other than on Photobucket, so I wasn’t concerned about resizing a photo by mistake. Anyway, I got it done.

Of course, that was before I read rjsimp’s hints to you! :bash: I hadn’t taken the time to realize that I could actually get the information straight from the little tiny picture. I’m someone lucky enough to have a Mac :poke: , and I’m using Netscape as my browser, so don’t know if that makes a difference, but now I realize that I can hold my cursor down on top of a small picture in any one’s post. When the menu pops up, I can see their photo. When I hold the cursor down on that enlarged picture, the menu pops up again, and if I select Properties, I can tell how big the picture is.

ccobb, your pictures are 648 x 486! So Close! So, had they been 640 to begin with, you wouldn’t need to do this. So, now when you go into Photobucket, as long as you know which pictures you are looking for, just resize to 640 x 480, and then when you go back to your Trip Report and refresh the screen — Voila!

Char, yes the mac / netscape is different. My suggestion was for IE on Windows. If you try to get properties on your picture from IE, CAG has javascript in there to stop the click and display’s a message saying that the images are copyright (which is odd to display on our own photos). In any case, it would be easy to see the image properties if this wasn’t the case. However, since it is; what I suggested works… :thumb:

So, lots of choices really.. Just got to pick one that you are comfortable doing. 😀

    rjismp,

Here is what the TOS says about the copyright issue:

    Quote:

You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Activart Ltd. and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). You also waive forever any claims of personal ownership of information and/or rights to image(s) from any content posted, and agree that Activart Ltd. has the right to use such information now and in the future as they see fit, and you expressly release any intellectual property rights, ownership, copyright and/or compensation to such material.

….another way to see the source for your pictures is to just click the quote button in your post. The picture source will show there as well…. same as it would if you were editing….

    Great idea, Jack! 💡

Maybe there is a 💡 under that lampshade after all :rofl2:
