New to Site and Cayman Experience

crhino- Last year we stayed at the westin and walked to cemetary beach one day. It wasn't that far of a walk but the problem is when you get closer to cemetary beach, the beach gets rocky and for some it can be a little bit of a pain to walk thru.
I suggest if you go this route to bring plenty of water and some snacks if you plan on spending a few hours there...
We decided to catch the bus on the way back since we were exhausted from all the walking and snorkeling.
We saw some small stingrays, tons of awesome tropical fish, and a 6ft sand shark.
You will love CB!

If I'm not mistaken, they do not observe daylight savings, so they would currently be the same as CDT.

I think.

The Reef

Snorkelkitty -
We stayed at the reef about 6 years ago and really enjoyed it! We have always stayed on 7 Mile Beach but 6 yrs ago (shortly after Hurricane Ivan) the Reef was one of only a handful of places that was open for business as the rest of the island was dealing with the massive clean-up from the storm. The Reef opened earlier than other resorts and I attribute this to the dedication and hard work of their staff (not to mention some help from overseas investors). The entire staff were great and the resort was pristine.

Because the East End of the island is the less developed you may want to consider renting a car. If you have kids with you, check out the Pirate's Caves. There is a valuable coupon in the Activity Guide. The Caves are located in Bodden Town (close to the Reef). There is a nature/cultural tour on the grounds with a small petting zoo. The real attraction for the kids is going down into the Caves. We have been told that while these Caves served as treasure hiding grinds for the pirates and rum runners that used to sail these waters the Caves have also served as a refuge for islanders during storms in the past. Here's some pictures of my kids at the Caves:

Trip Report - Cayman Brac March 2010

Glad to hear the island is making some progress in its recovery. I remember how quickly the vegetation in GC recovered after Ivan. It's amazing. The struggles that the people have to live thru is probably very difficult. Thanks for your report and pictures....it must be nice to visit your property.

Hello,
I am new here and have just been reading and lurking for the last couple of days.

Anyways, I put a request in through the link for requesting hotel quotes. It seems as though there's no discount for Guide Members. I just got a reply back as follows:

For best rates for your dates. Please visit our web site.

Sincerely,

Thomas Mason
General Manager

I'm not sure if I missed a code or something ...

This is a great site -- thank you -- I'm glad I found it.

DS,
You bet - I've got 4 2-tank dives booked with Neptunes including a Discover Scuba dive with my 10 year-old daughter! I can't think of anyone better to to teach a young person to dive than Casey at Neptunes.

Looking forward to your underwater shots - you are a great photographer - as the pictures you shared from our 2008 spring trip will attest.

When you go to Rum Point, head over to Kaibo for lunch---and be sure to order french fries with whatever you order--they are superb! Also drive past, or walk past kaibo to head over to the end of the road to look for starfish. Have fun!

Sailing or Yachting Charter?

Hi mmaxfield and welcome.

We do not recommend any sailing charters, mostly because there is usually not enough consistent wind so many end up motoring instead, which results in a slow but still noisy boat ride with gas fumes.

Please consider one of our recommended yacht charter companies:

Cayman Private Charters

or

Cayman Luxury Charters

They offer rates comparable to private sailing charters and provide the most spectacular, exhilarating and memorable watersport experiences you could ever possibly imagine.

Be sure to request your Activity Guide special member rate discount when booking.

Drew,
Thanks for the reminder about the wetsuit. I am one of those individuals who rarely gets cold when diving in Cayman waters so the reminder that a little one may need exposure protection is welcome! Thanks.

Soto's vs. Oh Boy Charters

I have gone with Soto's half a dozen times over the years and have always had a pleasant time. They really go out of their way to make sure everyone gets "up close" with the 'rays. Missed it this past visit, brought son and his new wife down for Pirates Week, but boat was broke, so they didn't get to play with them. ..... but we did see a few rays out at Rum Point which was so very cool.... go with Soto's, you won't be disappointed.
