Hey everyone! Great website!
We're leaving this Saturday. Does anyone know if the tropical storm ERIKA will pose any weather issues for the Caymans?
I had a picture of the storm track but it would not allow me to post any links yet. The track misses Caymans, but can still cause plenty of rain, no?
Here is the report:
The 5 p.m. EDT Tuesday five-day forecast track for Tropical Storm Erika from the National Hurricane Center.
Computer models for Tropical Storm Erika.
The National Hurricane Center announced Tuesday afternoon that the fifth tropical storm of the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season had formed east of the northern Leeward Islands.
It is still too soon to know whether Tropical Storm Erika will pose a threat to Florida or Pinellas County.
Tropical storm watches have been issued for the islands of St. Maarten, Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, St. Martin and St. Barthelmey.
At 5 p.m., the center of the storm was located about 390 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Erika was moving west-northwest at about 9 mph. Meteorologists with the NHC said on this trace, Erika is expected to remain to the northeast of the Leeward Island.
Maximum sustained winds were near 50 mph with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening was forecast during the next couple of days. Tropical storm force winds extended outward to 105 miles from the center.
The forecast track through Sunday shows the storm moving away from Florida and keeps Erika at tropical storm strength. |
