I continue to read, over and over, concerns about the weather on upcoming vacations. It seems that regardless of how many times moderators or residents or frequent visitors reassure that it is beautiful, vacationers have persistent doubts.

Rain is part of a tropical climate. Rain falls frequently in tropical climates. It may rain everyday, at some point during the day, during a vacation. Without a tropical storm or hurricane it will most likely NOT rain for the majority of any day. If it should rain, ten minutes after it stops the weather is back to beautiful! A thunderstorm, should it occur, is over as quickly as it began.

Grand Cayman is a very popular Caribbean destination. This fact alone should alleviate concerns regarding weather. People don't return to unpleasant destinations. When it is raining go into the ocean. The water will be over 80 degrees and you won't know it is raining!

Further, there are plenty of vacation destinations that are without rain. Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada...sure there isn't any ocean, but at least it is hot and dry. Wink

I understand the vacation planning concerns to a degree. Vacations are expensive and if you are anything like me, you are trying to plan the "perfect" vacation not only for yourself but for your family as well. This definitely adds a stress dynamic! So, trust what you have read on this forum. Stop taking weather reports at face value. Again, a rain event does not usually last long and does not usually affect the entire island.

My personal experience: Honeymoon, May 13-20, 2006 on St. Lucia. It rained every morning during our stay. By eight or nine in the morning the clouds had burned off and we were left with a gorgeous day! When reminiscing about our honeymoon, weather never comes up. Laughing

So, relax. Slow down. You are going to the most beautiful and diverse place I have ever been. Enjoy the ocean breezes and should a drop of rain fall, have a cool island drink under an umbrella and look for rainbows!

Kevin

AMEN Kevin! ThumbsUp ThumbsUp ThumbsUp
I have been here over a week now, not a day has gone by that is was cloudy all day! We had a down pour yesterday afternoon after a warm sunny morning and by evening we had the most beautiful rainbow you will ever see. Then four more hours of pure warm sunshine and the most beautiful sunset to end a wonderful day in paradise!

Rain is Gods way of saying you have had too much sun for now Wink

kevin7500,

Bravo. Being from Michigan like us, you can certainly appreciate diverse, and rapidly changing weather patterns!

Our Cayman experience is that they forecast a certain percentage change of rain to cover them selves. There might be localized rain for abit, but it is very localized and shortlived.

DS

I've said before that a good indicator of the weather in Cayman is the Royal Palms Web Cam. 90% of the time when I see it, it's sunny. And I agree with ds212. After awhile in that sun, you might want a cloudy day.

As they say in Vermont: "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." Jump

I too am a daily Reef Grill webcam watcher. It helps me make it through the long long dark winters of the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. I can appreciate peoples concerns over weather especially in the summer months. We normally travel to Cayman in March when it is dry but the one year we went in late May and early June we did experience more rain but like others have said it is not ALL DAY rain. There were brief down pours or a quick shower. Although I have to say on the heavy downpours I had never seen rain like that or have yet seen it again since that trip. It rained so hard it actually hurt the top of your head. But bear in mind we didn't really care we had on swimsuits and it was still hot. Last June I watched the weather every day as a tropical depression sat and spun over the top of Cayman for days on end so I am keeping my fingers crossed that does not happen this year
