what is the weather like in January? Are there certian predictable times the water is more rough where ships won't be able to tender?

I'm going on a cruise mid january and it makes a stop in Georgetown and I'm praying the weather is good then so we can tender and get to shore good. This is where i want to come the most out of the whole cruise and it would be a bummer to have to miss it.

Anyways if anyone can give me an idea from last january as weather goes I would appreciate it. Thanks

lnroe,

Don't worry about having to miss Grand Cayman......if the water is too choppy for tendering in the Georgetown harbor area, the ships anchor off the calmer South Side and tender in to an area down there. From there they taxi into the town and wherever else they planned on going. In other words, when the West is choppy, the South will usually be calm.

I think that ships totally miss stopping at Grand Cayman very rarely.....it has to be a real storm for that to happen. It does happen, but not that often.

My sister has visited Grand Cayman twice on a cruise, and both times were in January. She had absolutely perfectly calm weather, if I remember.

Was wondering how warm it actually is in January. The weather tables I've seen said mid 70s. How accurate is that? It will definitely be nicer in the Caymans than Pennsylvania at that time, but I'm worry about what to pack. Any suggestions?

Hi

I would bet that is the low temperature. 70 is pretty cool for grand cayman. We go in December and the beginning of January and it's very warm in the day and cooler in the evening, but not very cool. I usually take something with long sleeves because I get cold in the air conditioning. We have been there when it has gotten cool in the day, maybe in the 70s, but that is probably a rarity.

Hope you have a great time

Shelly :-)

P.S. I just checked the weather averages for Dec. and Jan.

Jan. 81/73 and Dec. 83/75 But it is hot in the sun, and there are nice cooling breezes.

Also, I am from northcentral PA. Hughesville to be exact, 15 mi. from Williamsport. How about you? I see you are from southcentral PA.

Ok, I;'m going to be in SMB 1/17-1/24. In my excited state, I've been obsessively checking the 10 day forecast on the weather channel. So far, I can see from wednesday-satuday of my trip and it is calling for rain every day. It is also calling for rain for the entire week before.

Please someone tell me that when they say it's going to rain there that they mean a brief afternoon shower...

daveh0,

Don't worry, you can look at 5 differennt forecasts and it will always say rain. Perhaps some brief passing showers, that may be on one part, but not the rest of the island!

How much credence can you put in a profession that gets away with predicting partly sunny or 50% chance of rain... Rolling Eyes

The only sure thing is that daylight will be followed by darkness at night! Wink

Take a look at out Weather Topic and comments about January weather

Have a great time on vacation! clapping

We just got back from GC and were there for 3 weeks and many days the weather report didn't look too encouraging. Even on the worst weather days it seldom rained for very long--many of the showers were at night and we never knew they had happened except for a few puddles in the road in the morning. But when you see a big black cloud heading your way, be redy to run inside because all of a sudden you could get a big--but short- downpour.

Have a great time--you'll probably have great weather.

Shelly :-)

the rain today was at about 5am. BOY did it ever pound down! It woke me up even! I have a high ceiling and a steel roof, so itusually sounds pretty cool. You can tell how hard it's raining outside by the sound it makes and in the year that Ive been in this rockstar penthouse apartment Ive never heard it drum so hard on the roof. By the time I left for work at 830, it was sunny again and the seat of my scooter was dry.

it IS supposed to be windy for the next few days, so it if rains, it'll be even briefer as the clouds are moving more quickly than usual.

Shelly,

I found the best thing to do when the big black cloud opened up was to pop on the old snorkel & mask & get straight in. Snorkel

By the time you get out it's sunny, sun & warm

& the mudslides go down a treat! drinking
