February Weather in the Cayman Islands

Could anyone tell me if it is often windy on the beach in Grand Cayman in February ? Rolling Eyes

The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning my wedding there, and I'm wondering that if I wear a veil, is it likely to be wrapping itself around my head, or taking off down the beach, when I'm saying my vows (lol) Laughing

Any comments ?

I can only remember a small number of times when it was actually windy on 7MB. The rest of the time there is a breeze but nothing like hurricane force that will blow you over during your vowes. Congrats Very Happy

That's the exact same time that we go to Cayman each year, and all I can say is that the weather is usually just perfect! Highs in the mid to high-eighties and lows in the 70's.......but, I do have to say that sometimes (not often) there have been Norwester's that have come through at that time, but don't worry about that. That would mean a day or so of disruption, due to some rain and high surf or whatever for a day or so, but it really doesn't affect your vacation much. The rain doesn't last long, but sometimes the waves are up for a few days. If you are a diver, you'll lose one day of diving (at the most!) since the dive boats just move to the side of the island where the seas are calm.

But please know, in my 23 years of vacationing in Cayman at the end of February, we've probably only experienced 4 or 5 Norwesters, so please don't even worry about that......

As far as parasailing, we recommend Parasailing Professionals, which you can read about here ......

Thank you Sue........I am so direction poor.......so when they are from the northwest which part of the island do they come in on and then later effect? I know, dumb question.... Confused

How do you know when a Norster is going to hit?

You need to look at a map of the island. The top of the page is north, the bottom of the page is south, east is to the right and west is to the left spin

When the wind is out of the northwest (upper left corner of the page) the harbor in George Town and often a large portion of SMB is impacted with big waves. Normally the wind comes out of the northeast (upper right corner of the page) and SMB and George Town are protected.

How do you know when one is approaching?

1. Watch the weather channel

2. Ask any old fisherman on the island.

I read last evening that the winds on the East End can be really strong Nov - March. We are leaving next week and I'm concerned we're staying on the wrong end of the Island. We are at the Reef - it looks beautiful but I'm still a little nervous? Any weather history you have for February would be super!

WELCOME kevinsharon to the board! I wish I could tell you that the weather will be perfect,....whatever perfect is for you..........when you arrive in Cayman in a few days. I can't, no one can. What I can say is that you are going to paradise.......the water is beautiful, the people are wonderful, the food is amazing, the palm trees huggable and you will have a fantastic vacation.........you just will.....it is almost impossible NOT to.

No matter what time of the year that you go to Cayman, it's a small island......if you have rain on one side, get in your car and go to another part of the island.........if it's too windy, same story. You just never know....it just might be a little more "iffy" in February...don't know, earliest I've been there is mid March and we had a wonderful vacation!

Please don't worry........this last week or so has been unusually windy from reports I've been reading...and I have to think that things will turn around in the 5 days before you arrive, if they haven't already. Don't forget that there are great places to see in Cayman on days when you don't want to go in the water.........there's the Butterfly Farm and the Botanic Gardens and a shopping visit to Georgetown and a sunset cruise and Boatswains Beach andonandonandon.

Yep--Celine is right on. When we were there in January there was a huge rainstorm....so huge that we couldn't even get out to the car or we would have been floating......road in front of our place was flooded----but we heard that it didn't even rain in Georgetown. We could hardly believe it---but that's Cayman weather for you.

In the whole month that we were there---mid dec. to mid jan. we had some windy days---which are kind of nice--relieves the heat, one really rainy day and one day with some rain. Not bad for 30 days. Sure wish I was back there now, no matter what the weather is there!

I'll be going in a couple weeks. First time! We'll be staying at On The Bay condo's. I, too, am curious about February weather. We've been told it's nice no matter what. I'm so excited to be going, I just can't stand it!!

I've been there in February too and the weather was excellent!

Make sure you get to the Botanic Garden--you're pretty close to it! They also have an iguana tour that I've never been to, but thought I might like to do that one of these years. You'd have to check the times and days for that.

Also we took a guided tour thru the Mastic Trail and I thought it was very interesting. You're pretty close to where they start the tour too. It's thru the Cayman National Trust.
