Hi, there all. We're GC newbies, but then you probably guessed that from the thread title. I'm trying to manage wife/daughters' expectations for the weather next week. Any educated guesses on what we should expect?? I'm sure we'll get some rain, but is it likely to be short showers and then sun, day-long down pours, or something else???

Thanks in advance for your help.

John A.

John,

This weather in Cayman is similar to it here in s. fl.

Usually if a shower does move in then it moves out just as quickly and based on the forecast by our Weather Girl, Shelly, it appears that you will have great weather. 20 to 30% chance means 70 to 80% chance of sunshine.

Wow!! So the flight down from Seattle and the layover in Miama were a little long, but talk about spectacular weather for our first day. Shelly, thnx. for the forecast. For the rainy off season this is pretty darn nice.

Have a wonderful trip--and often in Cayman when it does rain it might rain on one part of the island, and not on the other or it might rain at night and not in the day---that's the best kind of rain......hope that's the kind that you get.

Shelly :-)

Hello everyone - This is my first time going to the Caymans - I checked the weather for next week (18th -24th) and it states 60% chance of rain everyday. Am I going to be sitting in my hotel room the whole time? I don't go on vacation much and I'm a little depressed!!

Thanks

Lynn

Welcome, Lynn

During our week on the Island, we experienced rain only once. As we were in the airport getting ready to go home. If your week is anything like ours, you'll have a ball. If this is your first time (it was ours) be sure to visit stingray city. Try to be with a small group of people, 15 or so, and you'll have more fun.

Good luck.

John

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the weather forecast. In Cayman, the weather comes and goes. You can get a big downpour and 10 minutes later it's gone. Or it can be raining on one side of the island and not the other...and sometimes, the rain comes at night and the days are beautiful.

Hope you get the beautiful days

Shelly :-)

It's important to note that whatever percentage of rain called for, it will almost always be limited to a relatively short period of time. For example, there was a 60% chance of rain yesterday and the odds did indeed pay off; it rained, for all of about five minutes and then cleared up to a beautiful sunny day.

Lesson learned: Unless there is a specific feature in the area, the weather forecast will almost always predict some percentage of rain; although it actually lasts for usually no more than a matter of minutes.

My advice: Forget the weather forecast and enjoy the anticipation of your coming vacation. I predict a 100% possibility of it being the best vacation you ever had if you have spent any time here at all learning about all the best places to visit during your stay. Very Happy
