What is the best month to visit? Best weather, best prices, least people, all that. Thanks! Cool

Greetings JamieC,

I'll try to answer this the best I can, but I'm afraid my own personal experience is only in February and March.

The best prices would be in the summer season and the highest prices would be winter and especially over Christmas. I think that the savings in the off season are considerable, so if cost is a factor, you might take that into consideration. I think the off season starts April 15th and ends either in November or mid-December.

Tourism is higher in the winter months because people are coming to escape their cold winters back home. Therefore, numbers would be down in summer. There's no reason not to come to Cayman in the summer....it's just that the attraction is different when people have nice weather back home.

Here's a quote from a previous post by Joe:

Quote:
September - November are the most rainy of months and even then it is usually a huge downpour followed by sunny skies. May - July are my favorite months here with the least rainfall, lower humidity and best sea conditions.

Bottom line is, I guess the only thing worth considering is the cost factor. You will definitely save money by coming in the off season. Weather is going to be fine anytime and the number of people who come in the winter aren't enough to negatively impact your vacaton. You will not feel the least bit crowded sitting on the beach in front of your condo or most hotels in the middle of the high season, so don't worry about that.

Like I said, I've only been there in the winter, so others who have been there all different times of the year might be better to give you their preferences.

Good luck!

Hi JamieC -

Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in here.

Anyone who has been to crowded, literally towel to towel, chair to chair beaches will not find this in the Cayman Islands. nono1

I have had people question me as to why the beaches are not crowded, as if there must be something wrong with them if they're not crowded.

There must be a reason for this. I believe it is because so many people go to the Cayman Islands to dive and/or snorkel. There are a lot of people running around during the day doing those things so, in turn, many beaches are empty or not crowded. palm

In the evening, you can find bigger groups of people out for the night and wonder where they were all day long.

Hope this makes sense. Smile

we only go in April...but I love it then. We go the last part of the month.

We've never had a problem with crowds [but then we stay Northside, where crowds aren't generally an issue].

We love it in April. Pre-rainy season, post tourist season, not too hot.

Perfect for us!

We have always gone the last week in February into the first week of March. The weather is usually GREAT and we are early enough to miss out on any spring break rush, when it gets busier on SMB.

c.lear.........WELCOME and GREAT message.........I've been on this site since the beginning I believe and I haven't tried THAT yet.........don't like rushing in to things computer2 dangerous Wink

We've come in June, and March and this time will also give October a whirl............as for the "best" time to come...........except for the middle of September, when I'll be hiding under the bed......I'd say ANY time you can get to Cayman is the BEST TIME!

Well, we've only been there once, bet we were there the first week of May. It is the start of off-season, rates are a little better and it certainly wasn't crowded - even the cruise days weren't bad. And I don't know how often the hurricanes roll in in those first few weeks of hurricane season Very Happy but our weather was fabulous! It was the third trip for our friends and they have always gone the first of May.

I've had two August vacations in Grand Cayman -- very "low" season -- and there are several advantages in addition to lower prices for air and lodging. Unless a hurricane comes near -- and the historical odds of that are low -- weather tends to be fine, with heat and humidity no worse than in much of mainland U.S. It's a great time if you hate crowds but there are so few visitors that some restaurants close. And August excursions in your rental car will encounter less traffic. Cool

I missed that part about the restaurants - Thanks Celine. Very Happy

None of the best major restaurants, i.e. all our advertisers close in August. Lobster Pot sometime closes for a week or two in September for rennovations, which they have already done this year. Cracked Conch is scheduled to close for the month of September this year to make some changes associated with new ownership. Other than that, everything will be open all summer as usual.

My wife and I have spent the last week in March/first week in April there yearly since '97. In all that time, I can't really remember a "rainy" day. We had some downpours, but they usually last only a few minutes. We've also been there Dec and Jan, but still not "rainy". (The nor'westers can be interesting then, though!) My parents spend most of the winter there (well, except for this past year...) and my Dad says it really only gets rainy in November. But basically, you can't lose any time of the year.

Does anyone know the best months of the year for snorkeling in Grand Cayman? Which months typically have the calmest winds? Does anyone happen to know what the wind/weather is like in the second half of April which is the next time I'd like to visit? Any other snorkeling advice that anyone in the know might like to share is much appreciated.

John
