I know this subject has been brought up a lot but as a newbie to GC I have no idea what a good price for a rental car is. I've pretty much decided to go with Andy's and got a weekly price in May for $343/compact or $385/midsize sport. My first question is: Is this a good weekly rate? These prices include full coverage and license (no taxes inc.) I have shopped with other places and by the time I add all the extras they all seem to be about the same or higher. Do the rates drop any for off season? Should I wait to book?

Also, is it worth getting a larger car? We just need something to get us to/fro and the midsize sport appears a little larger than the compact. I'm all for saving money but my hubby is use to riding in a 4X4 crew cab dually at home~ :-) Are the compacts tiny?

We have rented from Andy's for the last several years and we really feel that their rates are great and the insurance coverage that they offer is very good.

So, I wouldn't hesitate to rent from them. I assume that you got your quote via the Internet and used the CAG20 discount code, when you did your inquiry. May is in the off season, and, yes, the rates will be lower, plus you can get an extra 5% Cayman Activity Guide discount, in addition to the 15% discount for booking on the Internet. I just tried that with your dates and after adding the full coverage, the price came out the same as yours, so I assume that's what you did.

To answer your question, yes, the compact is really tiny. My husband is a big guy and there are usually four of us in our group, so we don't like to rent one that small. We find that the mid-size (not the sport) works for us. The mid-size sport only has two doors, but if it's just the two of you, then that might not matter.

We rented a midsize, which was a sentra and we rented the smallest car for our daughter and her family. The smallest car is very small but it was a very nice little car--with power windows, which I couldn't believe. (Never thought about a Sentra as midsize, but that's what they call it, just to give you an idea.

In the past we have rented the smallest car for ourselves and were able to get the 2 of us, plus our luggage in the back seat, and one piece of luggage in the back part. There is no real trunk on these.

We figure the cheaper, the better, but if you are tall and want more space, that's another issue.

Shelly:-)

Bigger is better. They dont cost that much more and you can always use a little extra space. Stuff like dive gear, ice chests, luggage, groceries and everything else, you shouldn't have to struggle with things like that during a vacation.

FYI,

Just noticed that the car rates for off season have dropped a little with Andy's (for any of you traveling during that time). I've been checking for May travel and I was able to book at a lower cost today.
