Welcome Johnny.

Is it just me or is this an extremely unusual "first post" for someone to post on a message board?

Why do you ask?

True it is my first post, a friend at work dosn't believe it is .01 which is zero tolarance. And may also be a heads up for people visiting the Caymans.

I believe the limit is .10

The penalties for drunk driving are very severe in the Cayman Islands so I would highly recommend a designated driver or taxi for anyone engaged in drinking. The Cracked Conch provides complimentary shuttle service along Seven Mile Beach for their Monday night shows at Macabuca. I am hopeful that this might start a trend that other establishments may follow.

Serious road accidents in the Cayman Islands are rare so I for one am thankful for the strict enforcement and severe penalties for drunk driving. In Florida there is a serious injury accident every few hours and I feel like I am taking my life in my hands whenever I drive around here. You can rest assured during your vacation in the Cayman Islands that you will be driving on some of the safest roads anywhere in the world. Smile

Joe,

I just want to clarify for those who may not know, or who might read this later on, that when you say that you "feel like you are taking your life into your hands when you drive around here", that by here, you mean Miami, not Cayman, and that you are in Florida right now. Not everyone may know that each month you travel to Miami for a few days to take care of the printing of the magazine.

Also, a member asked a question the other day about the complementary shuttle on Monday nights from Macabuca to the 7 Mile Beach properties and how that works. Do you know? It's definitely a great idea!

Thanks Char - Sometimes, even I forget where "here" is. Razz

Yes, I am in Miami and the driving conditions here are among the worst I've experienced anywhere in the world. The freeways remind me of the old bumper car arenas they used to have at carnivals when I was a kid!

The Cracked Conch (Macabuca) shuttle runs back and forth every Monday evening from Treasure Island to the Cracked Conch. I think it's every half hour but it may be subject to change. The best thing to do would be to contact them directly using the contact information in their topic or Activity Guide when you arrive.

I hate going to Miami.

BTW...last month the annual study came out and for the 2nd year in a row Miami has the highest incidents of road rage for ANY city in America.

I love Vero Beach... Laughing

johnny1a - Here's the most recent information we have posted about the bus schedules

spiritman - Tell me about it! We've been here for 10 days and already had 2 near misses. There are more accidents in Miami every day than there are in Cayman in an entire year! We are happy to be returning home tomorrow. Very Happy

Just for the record ......

.......Laws against driving while intoxicated are strictly enforced, with a legal maximum blood alcohol level set at 100 milligrams per 100 milliliters (.10) of blood....... (quoted from several travel sites on the web)

This is kind of high, most states and provinces in North America are 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters (.08) of blood, in Ontario you get a temporary 24 hour suspension for .05 . However, please don't get any ideas, .02% is not much of a difference, maybe 1 drink!

I agree that .10 is high. Most if not all US states lowered it to .08 several years back, and I think that is still too high.

Even one or two drinks can slow reflexes enough to cause a crash, especially when on unfamiliar roads.

Can you imagine trying to figure out a round-a-bout at .06! spin

Is it .01 or .10?

Alcohol can occur naturally that can give close to a .01. If it's .10, that's too high. Considering the structure of the roadways, especially in the east end and Northside, AND the fact that you are driving on the left side of the road, They need to lower the limit. We like wine with our dinner, which is why we rarely had dinner on SMB. If we wanted a bottle of wine, we ate at Morritt's. Otherwise, it was a strict one drink limit. A best practice would be to save the rum punch for your condo room.

It is defiantly . 10, though having such a high limit tells me that impaired driving probably isn't too much of an issue in Cayman or they would be lobbying for tougher laws. I'm sure Cayman is no different than any other place, laws are made after the fact from problems.
