During busy season and the holidays in particular, traffic can be a factor in anyone's vacation. To spend as little valuable vacation time stuck in traffic as possible I am starting this topic for people to post any traffic avoidance tips they may have.

I'll start it with a few of my own and add more as I think of them.

◊ If you are staying in North Side or East End, avoid driving westward towards Seven Mile Beach until after 9am. When you return, avoid doing so between 5-7pm.

◊ If you are going to the BFM show, Portofino or Lighthouse for dinner and staying on Seven Mile Beach, that is a beautiful sunset drive. The sun sets anywhere between 5:30-7pm, depending on the time of year. If you leave about an hour before sunset you will be through most of the traffic by the time you get to the really scenic areas past Spots and you could relax and enjoy a scenic sunset drive along the ocean.

◊ Print out the cruise ship calendar for the days you will be here and bring it with you. Plan your trips to George Town on days with the least or no ships; or, after 4pm.

◊ Use the cruise calendar as a guide to plan your Stingray City trip on a day with the fewest ships; or do it on a Sunday.

◊ If you are staying on the West end of Seven Mile Beach - anywhere past Courtyard Marriott, avoid driving towards town between 7am - 9am and 11am - 2am. Avoid going the other way between 5 - 6pm

That's great advice, Joe. I have found that excepy for "rush hour" times and directions, it is really very easy to get around, even in the Seven Mile Beach area.

thanks! I'm with Paul though........the only real traffic we've experienced, has been going in and out of the grocery store on Saturday after arriving in paradise.............we did see some this last trip though...during rush hour and people heading out to the beautiful East End.....we were going the opposite way, which was smooth sailing.

Thanks Joe!

However, I'd much rather be in traffic in Cayman than at home! Very Happy

We arrive on Tuesday the 27th, our plane gets in at 4:55 pm. We will pick up our car at Marshall's ( they were the only one who had a 9 passenger van available for the week). We will then head for a grocery store/liquor store to stock up on necessaries for our rental house on the north side. Any suggestions for avoiding the heavier traffic?

daterry - By the time you get through Customs and Immigration, pick up your luggage, get your car and do your shopping, there won't be any traffic. Very Happy

Be sure to pick up your Activity Guide at the airport so you have the Blackbeard's and any other coupons you may need with you while you are stocking up. Wink

Thanks so much, Joe, for the suggestions to avoid the traffic. I have printed it out so that my husband and I can review it when we get closer to our trip. It's not coming fast enough!! I just would like to get down to the double-digits!! Rolling Eyes
