I get seasick very easy too. I've done the Stingray City trip several times and have some tips for you, because you don't want to miss this experience!

1. Take dramamine - about a 1/2 hour before you go.

2. Stay towards the front of the boat - away from the motor & the fumes.

3. When they make stops get off the boat. When you stay on the boat it will rock you back and forth and may cause trouble.

4. Bring saltines & water on the boat - they help.

5. Have fun and enjoy Stingray City!!!

I got seasick a number of years ago on a North Sound trip--just nauseated--but on the verge----The captain told me to suck limes and to get into the water--I never did get sick, but felt like I would at any minute--It was a little rough that day--try to go on a calm day. I didn't get sick on the calm days. The one day I felt awful I wanted to get a car ride back with some friends that were meeting us at rum point--but the captain said it ws bad luck and he needed to take the same number of people back that he started with. So I went back with him and made it in one piece. I think that the trip back was better than going.

Look for a calm day and you won't have to worry. It is a one of a kind trip and worth it.

Also watch what you eat for breakfast and beforehand. Bacon and eggs is usually not a good thing to eat before heading out... Look out at the horizon and not down into the boat. Stay out in the fresh air. And if you feel sick, well, just let it go. Usually you'll feel better afterward.

For me, sometimes I have a good day and somrtimes I have a bad day. And remember, a hangover and rough seas NEVER mix!!

Like an old friend of mine, who's been fishing for years, used to say: "The difference between you and me is that I can puke and fish at the same time..."

Speaking from experience - I have to agree. Wink

I can vouch for this tip too...the one time I was green around the gills (is that the saying?) I was told to keep looking at the horizon, not down at the water and it helped a lot.

I also take dramamine - two thoughts on that:

1 - take it before you feel ill - it doesn't do any good after you are already feeling green.

2 - Dramamine causes drowsiness, but they make a less drowsy version of it now - used it this past May on a shark dive off the north shore of Oahu - I didn't feel nearly as drowsy as usual.

I prefer a product called Bonine over Dramamine. It does not make me drowsy at all. And as Fandfmom says, take it early. I usually take it before I leave the house.

My brother, who is a doctor, told me that there are certain exercises that you can do to prevent motion sickness. He swears by them and assures me that if I went on a cruise and did the exercises before I left, I would be perfectly fine. Hard to believe but he says it worked for him.

Shelly,

I would love to know what the exercises are. Do you know of a site that talks about them?

Hi Jinjer

I just talked to my brother tonight and here is the scoop

These exercises are for vestibular training--you train the vestibular apparatus which is the stuff in your ear that causes motion sickness. You can probably search for some of this information on the internet. He used the 3 exercises below and thought that you should do them daily for a month--which was his goal--however he ended up doing them for a week. You want to build up your tolerence.

1. Stand on a couch pillow in bare feet. Close your eyes--hold for as long as you can.

2. Walk 10-15 feet in 1 direction--spin very quickly 180 degrees and walk back the way you came--spin and walk back. Do it over and over.

3. Stand erect. Put your arms out straight out in front of you. Thumbs together at eye level. Keep feet together. Rotate body 180 degrees (turn side to side) while staring at your thumb nails. Do this with a busy background in front of you. Do it to tolerence. (like don't get sick doing it) You want to build up your tolerence.

My brother says he really gets motion sickness and this worked well for him.

Good luck to you and if you try it, let me know how it goes for you

Shelly :-)
