PostPosted: Sat Jul 09, 2005 10:43 pm    Post subject: Sting Ray Sandbar Excursions - Trips on Sundays

OK - I'm in major planning mode now...

We get in Saturday Afternoon - get the rental car - stop at the Grocery Store for enough stuff to tide us over a few days and head out to Kirk' sKove in Rum point.

We want to get our Stingray Sandbar trip in while there are few if any cruise ships in port. None are scheduled for Sunday or Monday and only two on Tuesday.

Sunday, we plan on driving back to Gerogetown to attend 8:30AM Mass at St. Ignatius. While we are in town I fignure it might make sense to take our SR Sandbar trip then. Does anyone know if excursions run on Sunday? Should we just hang around SMB on Sunday and come back on Monday for the excursion and perhaps a little more grocery shopping. (I'm sure we will get to the villa on Saturday and realize that there are no pots or laundry detergent etc...)

Anyway - I'm looking for any advice o feedback.

BTW, we are still undecided as to the Soto's vs. Catamaran choice. I would like to give Soto's a shot if for nothing else than to do my part to support those who make this board possible. My wife REALLY wants to kick back on the deck of a large catamaran though. Celine had a good suggestion of trying a dinner/sunset cruise on the cat, but the Mrs isn't going for that right now. I have to pick my battles and there are a few other "extras" I am considering for this trip...

Tom,

Yes, Sunday Stingray City trips are available. We generally go on a Sunday because of the ship schedule as well.

I'd call Kerry [at Soto's] and book their afternoon trip that day, as I do believe your mass would get out too late to catch the a.m. trip.

Good luck and have a wonderful time.

~Karen

Tom........don't make the Mrs mad... Mad ESPECIALLY in paradise! Maybe you could do a different, additional snorkel trip with one of the other operations who have a cat if your wife doesn't want to do the sunset cruise on one? Just a thought Wink We have gone on a couple snorkel trips that way and it's been great.

The trouble with the operations that have the cats for the Stingray City trips is that they usually are half day or whole day trips and that's a LOT of time for a stop to play with the rays and usually one additional snorkel stop....the rest of the time is generally stopping off at Kaibo to eat....and it's usually a conch salad, rice, beans.....not the first choice of most of us with all those wonderful restaurants on the island.

Keep the wife happy is priority #1 though!

Hi ArleneZa - Welcome to the forum. Very Happy

Soto's has a fast, spacious, modern, comfortable boat with every amenity and they take very small groups. They get you to Stingray City and another site fast and will drop you off afterwards at a beach or somewhere else to enjoy the rest of your stay.

They have the best price and if you mention Activity Guide you will get a discount. You can email Kerry at: scruises@candw.ky

They will arrange to pick you up near the cruise dock. Try to book the morning trip if your ship arrives before 8am. Wink

Be sure to print out our and bring them with you. We do not distribute to the cruise dock and they will save you a fortune on things in the immediate area of the dock. Wink

Have a wonderful vacation and please post back and tell us all about it when you return.

Dear Joe:

Thanks for the advice. We will definitely book with Soto and will let you know how it was after we return. We can't wait to feel the velvety smooth stingrays again.

Regards,

Arlene

Arlene - If you want some suggestions for what to do after the Stingray City trip, give us an idea of what kinds of things you like to do, how many of you are coming, if you have your own snorkel gear, ages, etc. and we will be happy to help. Very Happy

Hi Joe:

It's just my husband and I. We are both in our 60's and will want to spend the rest of the day on a beach. We are platinum Marriott Reward members and may just want to go to the Marriott and use their facilites. Will we need to pay to use their beach? We are not really into snorkeling so will not have any gear or require any for that matter. We have been to the area before and have done all the sightseeing and will just want to relax on a beach. Any suggestions for a beach that will provide chairs and umbrellas?

Thanks again,

Arlene

ArleneZa - If you are platinum Marriott members you can go to the Marriott Beach Resort and use the facilities. Soto's will drop you off there after your Stingray Trip and you can ask someone at the Marriott beach bar to call a taxi when you are ready to leave.
