I want to make my reseverations with Soto's sting ray city snorkeling trip in advance of our arrival but Im not sure if I should do the morning or the early afternoon trip. I really want to avoid any crowds if I can. I already checked out the cruise ship schedule and decided on the best day ( the one with the least amount of ships in port), I just can't decide on the time.

I always liked to go out to SRC in the mornings. In the afternoon you get the tradewinds blowing west across the sound and the water is not as calm. This also leaves your afternoon free to enjoy the western side of the island that is blocked by the winds.

I have gone out to SRC on both morning and afternoon trips, sometimes both in the same day, and find the morning trips to be a great way to start the day! Then lay around on SMB until lunch and go snorkel Cemetery Reef in the afternoon...... By sunset time you are more than ready to lay back and enjoy the view!!

You'll have the time of your life regardless of which trip you take!!

Have a Great Day!!!

Hi caymancathy - Welcome to the forum. Very Happy

Like Captain Jack said, the morning trip will leave your afternoon free for other things. Sotos's will drop you off at a nice beach like the Hyatt where you can enjoy lunch and drinks with full resort amenities. Wink

Be sure to print out our and bring them with you. They will save you a lot of cash at many of the best places close to your ship. Wink

Welcome, caymancathy,

I see that you're not coming to Cayman on a cruise ship, but you are just trying to plan your Stingray City trip around a day with the fewest cruise ships in port. Not a bad plan! I think that some of the others who read your post might have misunderstood and thought you were coming by cruise ship.

Anyway, I don't see why it would really matter whether you go morning or afternoon, but I think Captain Jack's point about the mornings being calmer is probably very true, depending on the day, of course.

Another suggestion that I would make, since you are staying on Cayman and not just coming for one day, is to look at the weather forecast once you arrive on the island. Even if you have had the trip scheduled well in advance, if you think the day you have scheduled will be rough weather, I would definitely try to reschedule with Soto's for a better day, even if it means there are more ships in port. Since you're going with Soto's, you won't have crowds on your boat, anyway. Stingray City on a calm day is much better than on a day with rough, choppy water.

Now, choosing which day to hit the shops in Georgetown based on how many cruise ships are in port is an even better idea!

Char

Will Sotos allow me to change my SRC tour date if the weather looks a little rough? Would they expext at least a 24 hour in advance notification to get the proper credit for another day? I will have two weeks and would hate to do it on a rainy day when they still go, but it won't be as much fun. Does anyone know their guest cancelation policy if the weather is poor, but they decide to go anyway?

Oh gosh, I hope I didn't speak out of turn on that one......I thought about that as soon as I said that.

Maybe you would need to contact them directly, perhaps by e-mail, and ask about that. I guess I just think that if it's a really bad day and they still have space available for the next day that they wouldn't mind letting you change, but I guess I'm just making an assumption and I probably shouldn't do that!

I was basically just trying to make the point that I would put more importance into the weather on a particular day more so than the number of cruise ships in port, specifically because Soto's doesn't overcrowd their boats anyway. But that's just me.

caymancathy - I don't know why I thought you were coming on a ship. I must not be reading the posts carefully enough. Embarassed Please go to your profile and activate your vacation countdown when you have time.

kurtis - Soto's would not go out if it was pouring down rain and they will allow you to reschedule with 24 hours notice, without penalty. Wink

Because the temperature doesn't drop much during the night, the water is still nice and warm even in the morning. Not to worry!
