We just got here and have not been before. What area would you recommend given the conditions to snorkel at tomorrow or in next few days if stays windy? We are on seven mile beach. Have not been out yet so not sure how cloudy it gets when rough.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, csculco Smile ,

First of all, I have to say "lucky you" for being down in Cayman right now! Almost all of us on this message board are NOT there, so we don't really know what your weather conditions are right now. From your post, I'm guessing that the seas are rough on 7 Mile Beach. When that happens, your best bet is to hop in the car and explore some of the beaches on the South Side of the island, which could be quite calm. Also, even when most of 7 Mile Beach is rough, the Cemetary beach could be pretty calm, since it's kind of in a protected spot. It might be worth driving up there to check it out.

Hope this helps and that you have calm seas soon!

Char

Don't come to the Northside or Rum Point for snorkeling today--It's really rough over here and has been for several days.

The restaurants aren't serving from their porches on the water.

The winds are so strong over here that they were kitboarding and windsurfing off "Starfish Point" yesterday--a great sight. I got some good pictures and will be posting them in my trip report.

Shelly :-)

Agree with Char as we experienced the same thing. Cemetery Beach was very calm when 7 mile beach, Smith's Cove, etc. was to rough. Was one of the best days we had.
If you go to CB there is more coral and marine life to your left/center-left if your are facing the water.
Have fun...and if you are wearing fins put them on in the water not on the beach...lol.
Have fun!

I heard that it was dangerous to snorkel when it's windy because of the winds. I hope we can snorkel when we get there...

If you are staying along SMB chances are that you will have lots of opportunities to snorkel along the beach---in all the years we have been going there the only time that we couldn't, was if a northwester came in and then it would be rough for a few days. We are having unusually adverse weather conditions at the present---but it's unusual that it lasts so long----cool land windy.

Shelly :-)
