Cemetery Beach

Cemetery Beach is a popular snorkel spot located on the northern end of Seven Mile Beach.

This is what you look for to find Cemetery Beach. There's a small fire station on the other side of the road.

Park on the side of the road and follow the narrow path that leads to Cemetery Beach.

The house on the left was the second place Peggy and I rented when we first came to the Cayman Islands 13 years ago. Our first two weeks were spent at George Town Villas, followed by renting that little house for about 2 months. It used to have a tin roof and if anyone has ever stayed in a house with a tin roof during even a small storm you will know why we moved to a different condo after a couple of months. Very Happy

Enjoy the flowers along the way; you will find beauty in even the smallest of things if you take the time to look.

There are plenty of trees for shade. That slightly darker area out there by the mooring ball is the shallow reef.

Joe - those photos are wonderful, I particularly love the flowers in the first photo, how vivid and just lovely. Once again you never cease to amaze me with your photos

WOW - amazing photos. Thank you for adding more paradise to our day!!! I love snorkeling at Cemetary - the fish are so friendly and we saw a beautiful spotted baby ray there a few years back. It is one of my favorite stops and an easy swim for beginners!

Thanks Kim/Cindy - That first shot was difficult because I didn't want to move anything on someone's grave. I had to lay down on the top of it to bring the flower into position. Then I used two speedlights to balance the lighting of the flower with the background. Very Happy

This is kind of an, ummmm, awkward question, but leave it to me..... Rolling Eyes

With the cemetary right on the beach like that, have graves been disturbed during storms and hurricanes? Just wondering......

They used to use wooden boxes, like the ones at the South Sound cemetery and many of those did get washed away. Now they use solid stone and cement - they aren't going anywhere. Very Happy

Thanks for the great photos, Joe! I'm always in awe of your photography skills.

We spent a WONDERFUL day at Cemetery Beach with T&G on our trip last summer. It was probably the most relaxing day of our entire trip. We had drinks, rested on the beach, listened to Cuban music and snorkeled til we were too tired to walk! I found a lot of beach glass there as well.

Thanks again for the reminder of that day!

Very much appreciated images Joe. My question as a first time snorkeler is whether that area has an aquarium like stunning underwater panorama or if there is another area on the Island you would recommend (perhaps the Rum Point area, as some have said). In other words, where do you think I would see an amazing array of sealife on the island? Thanks in advance for your insights.

I need direction like that Exclamation landmarks description and Pics Smile ....what more can someone expect,.....uh, unless they wanted you to bring them there....hehehehe ThumbsUp

Oh!?, and the wooden box thing poke ...well thank goodness they use concrete, it would be terrible if relatives who passed away leave the cemetery and move into someones yard and spill out of a wooden box... gosh or worse... seek adventure on the high seas.

Thanks Joe! BouncingLaugh

I have trouble explaining to people why Cemetary beach was our favorite snorkling site on Grand Cayman. My wife and I just loved it. It is one of the more unique places we have been and you captured it perfectly with your photos. We are going back again this spring. Do you have any other hidden gems we should check out above and below the waterline.

Oh, those pictures were just awesome. ThumbsUp clapping I wish I had someone like you teaching me how to use my new digital. There is so much to learn on the camera and I really want to be able to take pictures like this on vacations.
