First time on your site. Going to GC for the first time. Leave 5/23/09. What are the beer prices there in the grocery stores.. Looks expensive. We arrive that afternoon. Any place to buy booze on Sunday?

Beer has been about $10 US a six pack for a long time now. And you can't get liquor or beer in stores on Sunday, but it can be had in restaurants and bars. drinking

Another thing you need to know.......there is no liquor for sale in grocery stores. You have to go to a liquor store and they close fairly early .......they might be open till 7:00, or possibly 6:00 p.m.

The grocery stores are open till 10:00 or 11:00 p.m., but again no liquor sold there.

... and don't forget to use the very generous Activity Guide coupons for Tortuga liquor and other products, such as wine and even beer specials at all Tortuga locations. Wink

Thanks! This has been a great site for information. Glad I stumbled upon it. Still thinking that driving on the left might be a little tricky though. Although, I've been a cop for 25 years and have seen a lot of drunks drive on the left here in Texas. Looks easy.

Should we bring our own liquor to GC? What would be the difference in US prices and GC?

In Jan. 2009, these are some of the prices---I think there might have been a recent duty increase so prices might be more.

LIQUOR
Red Stripe Beer 6 pack $9.50
Johnny Walker black $36.95
Woodbridge sauvignon Blank $9.99
Santa Rita Chardonnay $10.95

Are grocery stores open on a Sunday? Where can one buy disposable cool boxes?

This site is great for getting your questions answered! Thanks everyone.

Grocery stores are not open on Sundays.

Why not bring a collapsible padded cooler with you or do you need something bigger?

Shelly :-)

If you have time during a layover use the duty free shop in the airport to get your liquor.

We usually bring a cooler as part of our checked luggage. I believe most airlines do not charge for up to 2 pieces of luggage checked going from US to Caribbean?? We place dry goods in cooler: wine, liquor, etc. (no ice) - seal it closed with packaging tape - and then we have a cooler with us while on vacation. The cooler comes in handy if you have a car rental and want to explore the island!

It's also nice to have your beverages within in reach while watching the sunset!
