Hi Joe
We are 3 couples heading down on 3/14-3/21. We've rented a Villa at Mahogany Point and we're curious about food stores and prices. Even though we'll certainly eat SOME meals out, we always have breakfasts in as well as some dinners. That's the primary reason for going the villa route. Can you give me an idea of the cost of food at the grocery stores? Thanks. Paul

Hi

Here are two posts that I did--Jan. 2008 and Jan.2009 --lists of food and prices.

2008 prices click here

Remember that the prices are in CI dollars so the real cost if you are from the US is 25% more. The big stores have a wonderful selections of foods, both produce and meats. The express Fosters on east end is like a small convenience store.

Foster's Food Fair IGA has a web site with their current ad -- sometimes a few things are cheaper than US (most are more, plus the extra 25%). There are also a couple of warehouse stores on island (one near the airport Foster's) since you're a big group. Generally food costs more -- I take a small soft-side cooler with a few meat items (frozen in original packing with ice packs that are then handy for taking sandwiches to the beach), and use our favorite cerals in boxes as space savers in the suitcase -- so there's room to bring things home. You will probably want some of your own preferred coffee.

The TOS do not allow us to post links no matter how many posts we have. The only time that is allowed is if there is prior permission from Joe or a mod and I have seldom seen it done.

Fosters stores are open on Mon. - Sat. 7am -11pm (according to the fosters website) The East end fosters closes at 7PM M-Thurs. and is open until 9pm Friday and Sat.
