Foster's Food offers the greatest selection of fresh meats, seafood, produce and general groceries. Their prices are the most competitive in the Cayman Islands and they have a fantastic deli section, ideal for stocking up before heading out on your Cayman Islands tours.

Foster's Food, like all grocery stores in the Cayman Islands are open every day except Sunday.

You will be about a mile and a half from Kirk's walking South towards George Town and maybe a little less than 2 miles walking North to get to Fosters (both of those distances are a bit on the high side on my part, but better to err on the higher side than give you errant distances).... depending on what you intend to purchase (if it's not to heavy to carry back), I would suggest a casual walk on the beach up to where Fosters is and then hauling your bags back down West Bay road to 7 mile Resort.... if you do have a heavy load then grab a cab or catch one of the buses for your trip back to 7 Mile ......

Keep in mind that if you are staying at 7 Mile for the full Saturday to Saturday vacation week (timeshares in particular), they have scheduled trips to the grocery store for your convenience ( check the activity board by the pool when you get there to find the exact times). They provide the transportation to and from, which is a wonderful part of what the resort offers ......

Last year we shopped at Foster's over by Morritts and loved it. We enjoyed picking up meals at their deli. Do all the Foster's offer a deli with pre-cooked items?? We're staying on SMB this year and hope we can get more of that yummy food!

I went to Fosters several times. The fosters on SMB does have a deli, and I think they also had hot foods. It is a really nice grocery store.

Sandpiper,

You will probably find more at the Foster's on SMB. I think all the grocery stores have pre-made food.

The fosters at the Strand on SMB is huge and waaaaay much bigger than the Fosters across from Morritts. The one at the strand is like a huge grocery store in the states. Lots of fresh meat and tons of fresh produce. The one across from Morritts is more like a Quick Mart (7-11) type place.

shelly :-)

Hey to all - first post. I'm getting married 11/26 on GC. All 8 of us (small weding) are staying in a house on Rum Point Rd called 'Castaway Cove' - that's East End, correct? I've been down to GC about 12 times, but always stayed in a condo/hotel on SMB - NEVER ventured over to where we'll be...

Anyway, I need some general advice and suggestions on an East End week (we'll be there Sun - Sun). Grocery shopping, cool restaurants, little bars with ice cold beer (from the Guide of course), stuff to do over on that side, etc...We are not divers, but we're up for most anything. Oh yeah - it will be mostly adults (35-60ish) and two kids, 9 and 10. Anything on how to keep the kids somewhat entertained would be HUGE! Thanks in advance to all and thanks for the great board.

Castaway Cove, the villa is not in East End. It is on Rum Point Drive about 2-3 miles east of Rum Point. We walk past it on beach walks from our place.

Welcome mkmccoy: For groceries and liquor, you should pick all of that up before you get to Northside. Fosters has the greatest selection and lowest prices and they are on your way right next to the airport. Buy as much as you can because everything on Northside and East End will cost more due to the increased costs of transportation.

Without question, the two best restaurants on that part of the island are Portofino and Lighthouse.

Always book your reservations direct and look for special offers in Activity Guide; you will find two special offers for Portofino and a generous discount at Lighthouse.

Have a wonderful vacation!

hi mkmccoy

We have found that the Fosters in Savannah(which is on your way) at the Countryside shopping center is really nice--not so busy as the airport---but they have just about everything you could want.

Also there is a fosters Express that is 15 or 20 minutes away from where are--you can pick up things to fill in---it's kind of like a mini mart in the states (7-11 etc)

Here are a few ideas
The Botanic Garden is on that side of the island
click for Botanic park info

Rum Point is fun--great beach/fun rentals
click for Rum Point info

Find starfish beach -at the end of the road past Kaibo--you'll find red starfish if you are lucky
[/url]click for directions to starfish beach

Take a kayak tour either into the mangroves or a night tour. They are located at Kaibo--

Go East posting from Activity guide

If you like hiking you can get a guided tour of the Mastic Trail though the National Trust
Lighthouse is our favorite restaurant (but expensive)

Have a great time---hope this helps--it's about all I know

Shelly :-)

mkmccoy,

Congratulations on your pending wedding! We didn't marry there, but did honeymoon near where you'll be staying. We stayed at what was then the "Locke House", but is now something else. That was in 1985, so it's been a while!

Ever think about trying diving? You could try a 'resort course' that'll get you a taste of it without a full certification.

Shelly gave some great leads on things to do. Don't forget to take some good books; a day of lounging by the sea reading and napping can do wonders for reducing your stress level.

DS

...just want to say thanks for all the info - if anyone has any other input - keep 'em coming. Sunday question: my fiancee and I get there Sunday - we'd like to stock the house w/groceries - are any of the the stores mentioned - Fosters airport/Savannah/Express - open on Sunday?

Also - kind of a dumb question: Is there a 'quick way' to the north side, or do we just drive all the way around? Maybe I should download a map before wasting everyone's time...M
