If you are ever in the Cayman Islands be sure to go to the Lighthouse. It's a little drive from SevenMileBeach but well worth the drive. Make a reservation and ask to sit on the dock over the water. The food is the best and the view will knock you out! If you only have one meal to eat out, make it there. Cheers

The Lighthouse was one of my favorites as well. Wish it was open in time for my trip! Anyone know when it's scheduled to re-open?

We are hoping May, they are completely remodeling everything inside and out. It's taking a little longer than expected and I am really missing that restaurant!

what a bummer...we will be there in April and were hoping they'd be open when we were there.

We'll be on the Northside so this would be really convenient. Darn it! I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that we will be pleasantly surprised and they'll be open when we are there.

I talked to Guissipe yesterday and he expects to open in mid-June. I told him to put us down for the first night reservation. Same thing with Pappagallo, my wife and I will be there for each of their first opening nights. Not that I need the extra calories, but we will probably bring a dozen friends or so and make sure they are sold out the first night they reopen. Not that they need it - these are two of the most popular places on the island and lots of locals are anxiously awaiting their reopening. We'll probably be lucky to get a seating. Very Happy

The Lighthouse is one of the best restaurants on the island they are expected to reopen in late May - early June.

They have been the recipient of the award of excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine since 1997.

They are one of the very few restaurants on the island who has achieved the prestigious AAA Diamond Award.

From American Express:

?One of the more charming restaurants of Grand Cayman.?

Excerpt from Activity Guide Review:

This amazing restaurant features a creative menu of local seafood caught daily and Italian cuisine prepared by a team of award-winning chefs supervised by (Guissippe, CAINE member) Captain G. Seating options include a screened ocean-front patio, brand new deck set directly over the sea, and their prestigious air conditioned Chart Room with a magical ocean view. The Port Room is available for private functions, and offers the largest selection of wine, vintage ports and grappa?s on the island.

NOTE: The extended deck/dock will not be rebuilt until 2006.

To mjjpf,

If they're open I highly recommend the Lighthouse. You won't be sorry. The food is excellent, the ambiance awsome, and top notch service. Don't know where your staying, but it's worth the drive.

Sandy

Good morning Sandy Smile

We are staying at Turtle Nest Inn, have a rental jeep for the week, wanted to do some open air driving. This will be my first time driving on the other side, so it will be slow going. We wanted the jeep as we plan on going to Rum point for a picnic, 7 mile beach, (wife told me to go to Hell so we are), visit different beaches palm and plenty of shopping for the wife and off-course eating out dine each day.

Thanks for the information, showed it to my wife last night and its one place we will go if they are open.

Progress report of the Lighthouse Restaurant as of June 18th.

The front and lighthouse structure are looking good!

The rear and sides of the building sustained the most damage and had to have major structural work done. In the process of rebuilding, they have made some significant improvements to the design which will make this amazing restaurant even more appealing and spacious. The windows have all been increased to provide a better view of the sea, and a more rounded look has been given to the portals and some of the interior areas.

The rear and sides of the building sustained the most damage and required major structural work.

The inside is coming along pretty much on schedule. This probably looks like a mess to anyone not familiar with construction, but the bulk of the work has been finished. All the structural and rough-in is complete and they were finishing off the electrical when I was there. All that remains is the drywall, tile, cosmetics and fixtures.

Here's some of the crew hard at work. rolllaugh They really are working hard, and long hours to get everything done as quickly as possible. I just happened to catch them during a lunch break.

Guissipe had originally hoped to open in June, but had a few delays like everyone else. It's possible that it might be ready by the end of the month, but in my opinion the first week or two of July is probably more realistic.

I'll keep you posted and post a complete review with pictures on opening night. Wink
