Trip is getting close and we are so excited... first trip the Cayman's.

Question about dining at Spanish Bay Reef... is there a dress code for the meals especially dinner.....I know that some places have no shorts and that dinner is pants and a collared shirt for the men.. Any help would be appreciated. Jump

Hello,

I don't know if there is a dress code or not. When will you be there? We will be at SBR the 21st of April. We can't wait! Parrot Jump

I hope you will post a report with pictures when you return! The place sounds almost too good to be true. Parrot

I'm surprised that no one has answered this yet.....I'm sure someone who has stayed there will as soon as they see it. However, I will just take a very good guess and that is that shorts are just perfectly fine! Collared shirts would probbly be nice, but definitely no long pants!

That would be my best guess, based on what is acceptable at pretty much all the other restaurants on the island.

Sorry if this is too late, but you can wear a bathing suit and flip flops to dinner at SBR if you want. Generally, I'd say a shirt and shorts is preferred, but it is a very casual place that is apparently soon closing (see my thread from today) and I will be sad to see it go. I'm hoping it will reopen under new management or something, but who knows. I will be actively checking these boards for news...

Does anyone know if Spanish Bay will let you use flippers for snorkeling and also take them off the resort? I would prefer not to pack mine....they take up so much room. We're taking our own mask and snorkel though. Diving

YES!! We were just there and took some of our new friends we met there to Rum Point. They had no problem taking the snorkeling equipment out of the resort. You will have a blast there. We made a lot of new friends. Parrot

Did you write a trip report yet? I have more questions about SPR and since you were just there, I'm sure you could answer them.

Whew.....trying to think quickly and remember my questions.

Do they have rafts for floating in the water or should I bring my own?

I understand it is rocky going into the water (have water shoes packed) but is there a place on the beach where it is not so rocky?

How far of a walk to cemetery beach?

How casual or dressy for dinner.....don't want to pack a lot of casual dressy clothes if I don't have to

Where do you keep your valuables since there are no safes in the rooms....only taking costume jewlery but travel documents and stuff like that.

Did you take the shuttle to Beach Club......I read it is sold but Lady Pamela said it is not.

Did you eat all meals at the resort or venture off some evenings?

Did you rent a car....where did you go and if so, did you find it difficult to get around?

Do they have Internet service you can use if needed?

Are there a lot of children at the resort?

How full was the resort this time of year?

I think that may cover it.

Having a hard time concentrating on work.........the trip is about all I can think of. Wink dancing

Bring your own. No floaties at all, but after you eat there for a week; you won't one!

I understand it is rocky going into the water (have water shoes packed) but is there a place on the beach where it is not so rocky?

There is a small cut out in the ironshore. I think it was behind the pool, but if the surf is up; it is highly reccommedned that you stay in the protected area.

How far of a walk to cemetery beach?

Too Far!! Take the "bus" or a rental car.

How casual or dressy for dinner.....don't want to pack a lot of casual dressy clothes if I don't have to

Only if you plan on eating dinner out should you pack something a bit nicer than shorts. All meals are very casual.

Where do you keep your valuables since there are no safes in the rooms....only taking costume jewlery but travel documents and stuff like that.

There are "safe deposit" like boxes in the lobby that you can put valuables in. We kept all ours and our laptop in the room without any problems.

Did you take the shuttle to Beach Club......I read it is sold but Lady Pamela said it is not.

We drove over to the Beach Club. It is nice but not as nice and friendly as SBR. We kept hearing conflicting reports from Lady Pamela - it's been sold, it's in the process of being sold, it is up for sale. take your pick!

Did you eat all meals at the resort or venture off some evenings?

We had dinner at the resort every night and were not disappointed!! The trimmings are all the basic stuff - veggies, potatoes, etc. but the entree was different everynight and fish was always offered. We had lunch out a couple of times. Definitely try Hoshawn's (sp?) Jerked Chicken. YUM!!

Did you rent a car....where did you go and if so, did you find it difficult to get around?

We did rent a car. We went all over the island. Rum Point, Botanical Gardens, SMB, Georgetown, etc. No problems at all. Just remember to stay on the left!!

Do they have Internet service you can use if needed?

Yes. There is internet service. Just ask at the front desk.

Are there a lot of children at the resort?

No, not many at all. i'd have to say there were only 3 or 4 kids. There were a few more when the cruise groups stopped by but they did not stay for very long. 1-2 hours.

How full was the resort this time of year?

It was not crowded at all!

Hope this helps!

Have a wonderful time. Parrot

bubble,

WOW! That was a quick reply. Thank you so much for the great information. Cheers handshake I remember well about driving on the left and I have my rental car confirmation from Andy's. Drive Renting the days the cruise ships are in, except for Friday when there are no cruise ships in.......we'll do Georgetown that day. Shopping! BouncingLaugh

I'll just pack some dressy shorts and collared polos for DH and some dressy capris and tops for me........otherwise all comfy and casual. Smile Smile

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh! I am getting so excited. Next Thursday, we drive to Chicago and do a sleep, park and fly so we can be at the airport at 4:00 A.M. clapping clapping Mr. Green Mr. Green

I'm trying to compile a list of the things we want to do and restaurants we want to try.

Oh, one more question.........I believe I read somewhere if you are going out for the day, Spanish Bay packs a lunch for you. Have my soft fold up cooler ready to go..........have to have some liquid refreshments too. Wink Wink drinking drinking drinking dancing

Will they blow up the rafts for you? Broke my little pump.

I don't know about pumping floaties up. I don't remember seeing anyone around that had one.

They will pack a lunch for you! Just give them about an hours notice and they will pack sandwiches, fruit, and sodas.

As you can see I too am having a hard time concentrating on work! I want to be back there! Parrot

Great news we'll have a lunch packed for us. Very Happy Very Happy Maybe I can get them to throw a couple beers in too. Razz Razz

I'll see if I can find another little pump. Don't like the thought of blowing it up with my mouth.........takes forever. rockbed
