We are staying at this resort in Mid-December. Some people in our hometown own it and I know are renovating it. Has anyone stayed here recently. My understanding is that the restaurant may have just opened as well. Just want to get a general idea of conditions.

I didn't realize this resort was re-opened or ready to re-open. Do you know if they have a website up and running?

Welcome to the forum, jmm21a Smile ,

I'm wondering if you are actually refering to the Treasure Island Condos, rather than the old Treasure Island "resort" (hotel) itself. Do you mean that your friends own one of the condos and that they are renovating that? Or do you really mean that they own the entire resort property?

The condos have been renovated and open for quite some time now, and in fact, Grateful Diver is an owner of one of them.

It was my understanding that the resort/hotel would not be reopening as a hotel and has been turned instead into long-term apartment type rentals for local residents.

Please let us know if you have any more up-to-date information than that.

Months ago I read somewhere??? that they were going to open a few rooms of the hotel in Dec. (which they were converting to rentals only) for tourists and then in Feb. they were going to open a few more rooms for tourists. I have asked friends down there about this. I have posted on forums about this. No one seems to know what I am talking about. In fact, I even asked in August at the front desk (security desk) at Treasure Island. I had even read that the rooms were going to be at a very reasonable price. Maybe I dreamed it, but if anyone has information, please let us know. I always loved staying there for their $80. a night rooms. To me, I do not need the ritz...I just need a clean room and a shower and something not tight on the budget in a convenient location and at the time, Treasure Island fit the bill. Can anyone find out??? Thanks.

These people own the entire resort which I think they bought after the hurricane....they are are redevelopers in our hometown...often take historic bldgs and renovate.

They have converted some rooms in the hotel to their own suite. Not sure if they intend to open hotel or longer term rentals , etc. They had told us they expected to have restaurant reopened this month.

they do share some facilities with the condos...like the pools.

Any more info on this? I am staying in the TI condos in late Feb. and it would be great to know if there are more things open in the old resort. I was there in October 2005, and there was nothing open in the old hotel except the pool bar and pools.

Would anyone that is down in Cayman be able to find out if Treasure Island Resort (the hotel) is now open and taking reservations? It was always a reasonable priced hotel (if one was looking just for a room in a good location) and with renovations it may even better. A phone number or web site would be helpful if someone has the time or is passing by.

What was TI Resort are condos now and not available for short term vacation rentals. TI Condos, which we highly recommend are very much open for business and can be booked with a discount by using our

To Everyone:

We just returned from the Caymans and staying at the the old Treasure Island resort. It has become basically a place for local hotel and construction workers to stay. For example, the Ritz has rented several hundred rooms for its workers. They are not condos. The Treasure island condos in front of the old resort have been renovated and are nice but the old resort is still partially under construction, is dirty and we seemed to have a constantly revolving cast of characters. We had bought a week at the resort at a charity auction and stayed in the owner's suite...which was fine, but the rest of the place was not up to standard.

We moved after three days(didn't feel safe and the noise from the bar) to the Grandview condos which we thoroughly enjoyed and will stay at next year.

I should add to my previous post that we have no idea of what their plans are for the future. They are in the process of opening a restaurant and some shops on the ground floor but I am unsure whether they intend to keep it as a rental facility for local workers or eventually open some rooms to short term tourist stays.

Interesting. By the ground floor, do you mean what used to be the hotel lobby?

There used to be a small arcade of shops there back in the day. ScubaSensations, one of Bob Soto's shops was there too. I have spent many a day at that lobby bar... Still have friends who bartend there.

Remember the bakery and tobacco/cigar shop as well? I miss the steel drum bands on Sunday? nights. Our friend Omar who played in the band has come to visit us when he is travelling with the band to the Caribbean festival in Toronto.

Just prior to 9/11/04 the resort actually had a night club open on the second floor of the atrium, a seafood restaurant (Hooks) and a greek restaurant (Athena's?). I remember doing some classroom work in that little office Bob Sotos had facing the pool. I think I still have a bunch of Bob Sotos bumper stickers the staff from Sotos gave me as I was leaving one year.

When I referred to the ground floor...I did mean the lobby area

I searched and searched for a website....there is one for the condos(ticondos.com) but nothing for the "hotel"
