PostPosted: Thu May 04, 2006 10:00 am    Post subject: Courtyard Marriott vs. Comfort Suites. Would you Gamble?

Looking to book a hotel in August and saw on an internet site showing a hotel that was described as:

a resort or suite, could be holiday inn, double tree, radison or other quality 3 star hotel, near beach, has restaurant, complimentary breakfast, pool, fitness room (and I can't remember if they mentioned spa)

I am thinking it is Courtyard Marriott. Which would be great. Or do you think it is Comfort Suites, which would be even better. They will not tell me until I book which hotel it is. Would you gamble to save $106. for the week...which I am thinking could be put towards the rental car (which I get no matter where I stay). What else could it be? The price is $126. a night. I can get Comfort Suites for $140 a night and Courtyard Marriott for $145. a night. Sooooo, what do you think??? Is it worth the gamble?

I also have received a few pm's asking if I used the best rate tag above on this site. I did. I received two out of four price rate searches that I inquired about. One of them I could beat(by $15. a night and possibly more if I take the above gamble) and the other I did not investigate any further, although I thought it would be a great deal if I was going down there with a family!

The description sounds like Comfort Suites.... although the fitness room is a fitness closet!! The breakfast is good.... and free!!!

Did you try the hotel search feature.... maybe you can negotiate a rate from them once you hear back...

Good Luck!!

I tried to pm you, Captain, but I guess I lost those powers. Shock

Anyhow....still debating on the hotel....will let you all know what I decide..probably in the next day or two.

I did try the "best rate" above, but I found a little better deal elsewhere, but CAGS was top notch on car rentals. jump2

No, I don't think I would gamble to save $106 for the week. When you spend so much--as you do when in Cayman--$106 a week doesn't make a dent. So I would choose the place that I really want to stay--unless it really doesn't make any difference to you. Now, $106 a day, that would definitely make me think about saving the money.

thanks for fixing the pm status...I will try to forward the pm later this evening to you, Captain.

Re: Hotel choices and gambling.....I probably wouldn't chance it any where else, but in Cayman, because hotels could really be spread out, but with the description that the "internet site" gives...a 3 star hotel near the beach etc.....makes me think that it would either be Marriot courtyard or Comfort Suites. Really, where else could it be if the hotel is in the chain of Holiday Inn, Radison etc. or other quality standard hotel. The $106. savings is almost the entire rental car for the week. I am still debating! Think I will sleep on it, though. rockbed

snowed in - I would be a little leary that they might be giving you a room that was down the corner by the ice maker behind the utility shed Razz Seriously I have read nightmare stories about people who have booked rooms from such places only to find out they get the worse room on the property.

For the $106 I might want to be able to have some say as to my room location, preferably not one with a view of the parking lot! But if you are just looking for a place to hang your hat and rest you weary bones after all day fun filled activities from such places as Sotos, Cayman Kayaks, Pampered Ponies and on and on then it might be worth the risk, dunno though, I'm all about the room, the view and the least amount of steps to the amenities Razz Very Happy (and room service, love room service)

I gambled!!! spin I took the chance last night on the surprise hotel...booked it not knowing exactly what I was getting- just knew I was getting a good deal and that it was going to be a star 3 hotel near beach etc. YAHOO!!!!! It turned out to be Comfort Suites!!!! The hotel I usually stay at....the one I originally priced out....and I just ended up saving over $180 which the way I look at it is the RENTAL CAR FOR FREE!!!!

WAHOO<YAHOO< YIPPEE!!!

and.......if it would have ended up elsewhere.....it would have been ok, too. I am only in the hotel to sleep......and shower, and have stayed at most hotels on 7MB and there are really no BAD hotels.....but, to get the one I was pricing out....Bonus!

Have a great day! Sunny and 80 today in Boston!

Aren't you the lucky guy!! It was great that it all worked out for you. I have used the site where you submit a price when going to visit our son in the states and have it figured out pretty well how to get the place I want to stay. It's so much fun to save money!!

Shelly, Just curious, with our warm season so short, is there a particular reason to go to GC in the summer. I, personally, REFUSE to give up any of the little good weather time we get here in the Northeast.
