Hi there. Is the bank or the airport going to give me the best exchange rate USD to CI and where is the nearest bank to Marriott on 7 mile beach? I understand taxis are expensive and renting a car isnt a good idea since I dont want to drink and drive.....Are there bus routes or just random vans? Thanks for your responses.......Can't wait!

Hi hatelogginin and welcome to this forum!

ALL businesses take US dollars so there is no reason to obtain CI money ahead of time.

As far as drinking and driving, good choice not to, but there are alot of places that serve drinks along seven mile beach that are easily within walking distance, even if you chose to make an evening of hitting multiple bars.

try the frozen mudslides at Coconut Joe's

hope this helps!

Welcome to the forum hatelogginin Smile ,

As squidkisser just told you, don't worry about changing your money over to CI. Everyone takes US dollars and then gives you change in CI. The "exchange" rate never even varies..........it's not really a true exchange rate, like you might be used to thinking about when traveling to other countries. It is pretty much always going to be $1.00 US = $.80 CI. However, most banks and some grocery stores might give you $.82 CI to the dollar when cashing in traveler's checks. I know....I know.....who uses traveler's checks anymore!?! (We do sometimes Embarassed ).

As far as the buses go, I would say there's no real schedule. I think you just flag one down when you see one (they use big vans). They're quite sporadic and I don't know how late they run at night. Luckily, you hotel is close to lots of great restaurants, so you can walk to many of them. Otherwise, I think your best bet would be to take a cab, rather than rely on the bus. We always rent a car, but then we do need a designated driver.....

Have a great vacation!

Char

Our bank doesn't even offer travelers checks anymore---we always took them with us, but the past 2 years we finally gave it up. We hardly ever use cash on the island---however now that most credit cards are charging a foreign transaction fee, we might want to think about it. It was good when we got free travelers checks, but then our bank stopped doing that too. They get you coming and going.

Shelly :-)

Off the top of my head, I can think of 25 bars within a 20 minute walk of your hotel.

And I've been to them all.... drinking

And there's probably a good story to go along with each and every visit to all of the bars! Mr. Green
