Anyone know the rate banks are giving for excange of UK £ to the CI $ on Grand Cayman?.

Best rate I can find in the UK is about CI$ 1.21 to £1. I expect we can do better by changing £'s when we arrive.

Thanks

Steve

Welcome to the forum Glasgow_Rangers! When are you going? I'm not sure about the current UK/CI rate that banks are giving. It sounds like you are researching it, so I would go with the best rate you can find. We usually wait to exchange when we arrive in GCM.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Thanks very much. We're coming over in November but the recent economic problems with the £ falling against the US$ is a bit gutting but there you go. I'll look at what I can get here.

Cant wait, not long to go now.

Hi Steve
As I understand it the CI dollar is fixed to the US dollar so for us Brits the exchange rate is dependant on the pound against the US dollar. I have just done a quick check on this on a currency converter site and find that £100 = CI$132 or $161US. $161US = CI$132 so it is the same! I usually change up my sterling into US dollars before I come as it is accepted everywhere on the island. You get your change in CI$ though. I also bring some US travellers cheques too as it's safer than carrying loads of cash. Most places will take the travellers cheques as currency or you can change them at a bank (you need your passport to do this).
Hope you have a great trip. I am coming out for my fifth time later this month - can't wait!

As we are not going to the US we'll just stick to Cayman $.

Did you know if you go on the moneysavingexpert.com site and look at the "travel money maximiser" you can get the best rates commission free with next day delivery of CI $ from Tescos. or

if you do not want to carry a load of cash, look at the Abbey zero credit card. No foreign CC purchase charges or transaction fess so can equate to quite a saving. (Only charges are for withdrawing from an ATM)

One other pointer, for phone calls telesavers.co.uk dial the low call access number 0844 566 51 51 and you can phone any landline or mobile in the Cayman's for just 5p per minute, so if someone needs to keep in touch will save you a packet on call charges to your hotel or mobile if you get a local sim card.

Hope this info is of use.

Steve
