Does anyone know how we could get to Rum Point for the day without having to rent a car? There used to be a tour that went there through Island Marketing, but they no longer offer it. I would be grateful for any and all suggestions...thank you!

Hi NoVa Mimi

I see that no one has answered your post --probably because most people would rent a car to get out there. The bus might go there, but don't know for sure about that. Also you could take a cab, but that would cost you more than a car rental. You could rent a car for a day and make some tops on the way out there and check other things out--the Botanic Garden would be on the way and we enjoyed it this year.

We have never had experiences with any tours so I can't help you out there. Will you be on a cruise, or staying on the island?

I'm sure that someone else will be chiming in and giving you some more specifics.

Shelly :-)

NoVa Mimi,

I'd definitely recommend renting a car. You can spend some time at Rum Point and then wander your way back and sightsee along the way. You'll see much more of the island that way and it'll be more relaxing being on your own schedule.

Just remember, Drive Left! Drive

I agree with everyone else so far. But you didn't say where you are staying, assuming it's on seven mile beach the rental places are nearby. If you are on the east end your choices may be limited. But I do agree that renting would be the best option.... the Island is beautiful and exploring it on your own is amazing!

Thank you all for your help Smile. We will be there for only one day on a cruise. My concern with renting a car is we will only be there from 8-4 and quite frankly, what if we get lost? I know the island is not all that large, but I suspect it might be still be possible to get lost and perhaps miss the last tender. I might go ahead and look for another place to spend the day as I know there must be other places that are just as nice! Thank you again!

aaaahhhhh.... the one day cruise stop!

I don't think that you would have the time to go through the time consuming act of getting to a rental car company and filling out the paperwork going somewhere enjoyable and then of course reversing that on the return trip

If I may be so bold I reccomend the Sea-Trek underwater helmet diving excursion. That is what we did on our last cruise stop to Grand Cayman and it was a blast! You have to book early tho because space is limited. There is a link on this forum somewhere (sorry I'm not computer savvy enough to have it here) I had posted some of our Sea-Trek underwater pictures on the thread but I accidently deleted them so all there are now are red xxxx's but the rest of the thread gives a good description

Hope this helps!

You might want to go thru the Making the Most of One Day in the forums and see what others have done

This may be 0 help, but I know that every time we've been to Run Point since the ferry stopped running, there have been tour busses there. What I don't know is where they were from.

Squid,Shelly and Bill, you all are so nice in trying to help me out, thank you! Squid, I agree...renting a car is a bit more than we want to get into for the few hours that we are there. I'll look into that excursion. Shelly, I'll look into what other folks have been doing while there on the Making the Most of one day forum. Bill, I agree....those buses have to come from somewhere. Also, for such a popular place that so many people want to go to, you'd think there would be some way to get there! I am tempted to call The Wreck that's located there and see if they know of another way to get there. Thanks again for each of you trying to lend a helping hand! I appreciate it!

By the way Nova, you didn't say WHEN YOU ARE GOING!!!!!!!!! (LET ME ADD A COUPLE EXTRA) !!!!!!!!!!

If you go to your proflie you can enter your dates in so we can all be excited with you!

Also if you go to your cruise line web site there should be a way to see the available excursions and I'm guessing there would be a bus tour to Rum Point there

If you just want beach time you can make a left off the tender dock, walk a bit and you're on seven mile beach, take some towels and you can sit anywhere or there are resorts that will let you rent a beach lounger for 10.00 or so each

take a right off the tendering dock and just past downtown George town there is what I understand an excellent snorkeling site

Last year friends of ours came to the GCM via cruise ship while we were there. We stay at the Morritts. They told us that there was a boat that went from their cruise line to Rum Point. We in fact did not know that and went to the pier to pick them up. I suggest you check with your cruise line and see if that is an option as it is quite a ride from the pier to Rum Point and you definitely want to have a rental not a cab!

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Disney Cruise has a boat that goes to Rum Point (from where, I'm not sure).
