Joe, a Cruise Critic member just posted a message on the Cayman board that he talked to Brigette Brown at the Hyatt about the free day pass for cruisers on the CAG deal, and she said she cancelled it because it was getting too crowded. There is now a $35 p.p. charge which includes a $15 bar/food credit.

Does the Colony next door have a pool or just a beach?

We heard the Courtyard and Comfort Suites welcomes cruisers, do you know about that?

Thx,

-Bob

Bob7 - I just talked to Brigitte today and they are getting too many people so they are going to start charging. I am trying to negotiate something for our members and I will post it ASAP.

In the mean time please go to Comfort Suites. If you order some drinks and food from their pool bar, Stingers you can use all their amenities: Pool, Beach, Ping Pong, etc.

Beach Club is wall to wall lounge chairs and the most crowded beach on the island. Courtyard is across the street from Seagrape, which is open to cruise people. It is also a very crowded beach. You would be much better off at Comfort Suites or Royal Palms. Wink

As someone who has stayed at the Hyatt, and expect to again in the future, I am very happy to hear they are not going to allow people NOT paying their room rates to crowd the beach, bar, & pool areas. Their beach & pool area is lovely, but not huge so when the property is pretty well booked, can well understand why day trippers must be limited (or even not allowed at times). Definitely no problem during quieter months (we met a great group of 5 spending their day at the Hyatt last October!), but just as definitely not okay during busy times.

Joe: thx for the update and tips.

Dog: yes I agree, if a resort doesn't have the space to offer day passes it isn't fair to the hotel guests. In Puerto Vallarta at the Krystal resort we sat near resort guests and had a nice talk with them, them filling us in on PV and us answering their questions about cruising, but that place has several pools and a big beach with lots of room, so space wasn't a problem. Same at the El Cid Castilla in Mazatlan.

The information you provide Joe is great. We arrive by cruise ship Mar 9. There will be 6 ships in that day. While on shore we'd love to have 3+ hours at the beach. I understand that the Hyatt has a day pass, but my question is which hotel with a day pass has the best or nicest beach, which is not too crowded? Thanks for your top notch advice.

Hi Lefty, Welcome to the forum.....

If you aren't opposed to paying the day use fee your best bet would be the Hyatt..... They have wonderful facilities and beach and since they do have the charge will not have the larger crowds like the areas that don't charge the use fee..... Comfort Suites is not right on the beach, which is about 50 yards away... but their pool and bar facilities are top-notch!!

Best to check w/ Hyatt to see if they are allowing people to buy day pass. If their rooms are well booked, they might not be allowing non-resort guests...even those willing to pay.

Royal Palms is a good spot on SMB, has food, shower, changing facilities & conveniently located for getting back to your ship on time without wasting a lot of time between being on the beach and getting back to the tender.

Your recommendations are appreciated. If we can we'll try the Hyatt first.

The Hyatt is charging $70/per person for a day pass. I am trying to negotiate a discount for our members. In the mean time you can go to Comfort Suites or Royal Palms for free. Wink

Joe, I noticed you hadn't posted anything new on the Hyatt since 2/25. Do you have any new information? We'll be in GC on 7/20 on the Conquest. We've been to GC a few years ago, but this time we're looking for beach, food, drink and some shopping. Love the forum and all the great information you provide.

Thanks, Joe

Will be in GC on April 24. Looking for any updates on hotels with day passes. Want a place on the beach with chairs available.

Hello All,

New to this forum and enjoying the dialogue and great info. We'll be in GC on Jan.10/08 (Celebrity Century) and are looking to chill at a nice beach resort location for the day. So far, I've contacted the Westin Casurina, the Hyatt and Beach Club Colony to ask about day passes. Both the Westin & Hyatt say they are fully booked at that time, so no day passes available. BCC wants $75pp, which they say includes a meal, drinks at the bar, and use of their facilities.

From the info posted here, I'm now leaning toward Comfort Suites. Do I understand correctly that the hotel itself is now closed for repairs from hurricane damage, but the beach bar and pool are open?

Thanks for your help! palm

The Hotel is and has been opened for quite some time. It opened shortly after Ivan, which was well over 2 years ago ....

Have fun!

Seaboyer,

Welcome to the forum... glad you found us! Smile

As Captain Jack advised, both the Comfort Suites and the Hyatt Beach Suites have been open subsequent to Ivan for quite some time. Only the main portion of the Hyatt, across West Bay Road from SMB remains closed. Sad

Unless you wish to be elbow to elbow with every other cruise ship passenger, I'd strongly advise you to avoid BCC. Rolling Eyes

Take a look at the "Making the Most of One Day" Topic, and all the other Topics/Threads on the board to obtain the maximum enjoyment/benefit of your limited time on GC. Certainly a trip to Stingray City with Soto's, is not to be missed! Smile

After looking around, should you have a specific question about an activity, restaurant or resort, feel free to ask! ThumbsUp
