The overwhelming majority of cruise passengers come here and miss most of the best parts of the island ? over 90%, to be more precise. A nice beach with burgers and beer is fun but you can do that at any beach. You are traveling to a distant and exotic land - why not be a little adventurous and explore some of the island's wonderous beauty and attractions? There is something very special about having a secluded beach all to yourself and the photo opportunities and memories which can be acquired at such a place are meaningful and everlasting.
You will need a car or taxi to do this tour and it would not make sense unless you had at least 6 hours of shore time so this will not work for everyone. The longer you are here the more you can do; pick as many of the attractions as you like, given your length of time on the island.
Most of the taxis here are vans and can comfortably accommodate up to 9 people, so if you get together with a few friends on the ship and put a group of (say) 4-6 people together you could easily do this tour for around $40/person, plus admission fees - which are very low - around $5/per place. Many of the places are free like Blow Holes and Mastic Trail.
If you didn't bring your own snorkel gear you could stop and rent it at Eden Rock for around $12/set, just mention Activity Guide. There are dozens of magnificent tranquil places to snorkel on the way to East End.
You will pass some of the most beautiful beaches in the world along the way and you can have any one of them all to yourselves, completely free of crowds. You could even reserve ahead with Cayman Kayaks and have a spectacular East End kayak ecotour. The possibilities are almost endless.
If there are just a few of you it might be more practical to rent a car. Make a reservation ahead of time with Andy's or Economy and you would get a discount and could arrange for them to meet you near the dock and take you to their office to fill out the paperwork; you'd be on your way in no time.
This would be an exciting, intimate, memorable and culturally significant way to experience some of the very best parts of the island that very few cruise passengers ever get to see.
If you?re not planning on going to Stingray City and have the time, this would be one of the most rewarding tours you could possibly do.
If you decide to do this tour be sure to print out all the coupons from our main coupon page:
They will come in handy and save you a lot of money along the way.
This is just a page from the magazine but I thought it would be helpful in planning your days to try and set aside at least one day to see some of the more remote and pristine areas of the island.
