We are headed to Cayman in a few short weeks. Taking our 2 kids under the age of 4. Looking for calm beaches where they can get use to the ocean. When we went to a Aruba, they had "Baby Beach" which was perfect for young kids. I have read about these beaches that seem fit the bill: Rum Point, Starfish, Jolly Roger...true or any others?

Also we love to drive around and check out beaches, any not to miss and are these beaches easy to find?

Thanks

doggiepaws,

Welcome. I love your screen name!

Many of the beaches on the island would suit your needs, depending on the weather. A lot of it depends on the wind. Normally winds from the easterly direction and tend to make the beaches along SMB favorable.

Obviously, other winds make others better.

Where are you staying? That will help us with recommedations.

DS

Welcome doggiepaws:

Be sure to add Kaibo to your list of beginner beaches. You will not find a more tranquil area with calm water conducive to beginner swimming and snorkeling. The water immediately in front of Kaibo may sometimes appear cloudy, as it is a protected lagoon. Take a walk around the point to the other side, which is a very beautiful hundred yards or so of shady trees and calm water. Pass the picnic tables and near the bathrooms you will be at Cayman Kai public beach. The water there is clear and almost always calm, ideal for beginners.

You can see this on our Northside Map, which is the best we have until I have time to finish the blowup of the Cayman Kai area.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Joe

I am confused about where you are referring doggiepaws to here. Is it the park adjacent to the Kaibo condos? Or to the area commonly referred to as Starfish point which is shallow and clear until you go out to deeper water?

When I think of Cayman Kai beach it is the one off the Northside road before Rum point.

Kaibo is great for lunch and there are a few swings under the huts for kids to play on. It is also very shallow there so it would be fun for the kids to play there, but not caribbean blue and clear.

When our kids were toddlers they just loved to run along the edge of the water and the sand--splashing and looking for shells, and you can do that just about anywhere.

Shelly :-)
