My wife and I may be travelling with our 8-year-old grandson to Grand Cayman. What is there in GC to amuse him? We need a rather extensive list of options to cover two weeks. He's a good little snorkeller.

Thanks for your help!!!

Ross

Welcome to the forum rsirvine Smile ,

I think that there are quite a few activities that your young grandson would probably enjoy......take a look at the Must-Do list that Joe put together awhile back.

Of course, this is a list for all ages.....not a list just for young children, so you have to pick and choose. Spend some time looking throughout the whole forum and do some reading....you'll get lots of ideas, I'm sure.

Of course, he'll want to swim with the Stingrays, so a trip to Stingray City is a MUST DO! We highly recommend Soto's Cruises for that. Then, of course, he'd probably like the Pirates Caves, Boatswain's Beach, and maybe even the Butterfly Farm. Since he's a good snorkeler, the ocean with all its treasures will probably keep him plenty busy and give him tons of fun every day! If he likes looking at all those fish, maybe he'd like a ride on the Atlantis submarine or the semi-submersible Seaworld Explorer.

Have fun and may you make many happy memories those two weeks with your grandson!

The water will be a great source of fun for an avid snorkeler and as Scubachar said, Stingray City is a must and will provide a unique and unforgetable experience for everyone.

When my kids were younger, they were happy playing in the pool if hubby and I just wanted to relax in a chair and read or sunbathe.

I, also, highly recommend the Butterfly Farm. When I first heard about it, I really didn't think it would be something I'd enjoy, but when I saw some pictures, I was convinced I would want to check it out. I would recommend going in the morning when it is a bit cooler than afternoon. If you go early enough in your stay you may want to return again for free with the same admission ticket.

Have fun!!!

Just thought to add that we carry a small cooler with drinks and fruit for road trips around the island. Wink

Hi rsirvine

When our kids were little they just loved playing on the beach and the swimming in the sea. They always found kids to play with, so we seldom had to take them anywhere.

Now our grandkids are 5 and 7 and it really doesn't take much to amuse them in Cayman--sand, water--they've been to the turtle farm (before the improvements) and the butterfly farm--I'm thinking about the Pirate Caves for this year--but I'm not sure if they'll really want to go.

I know you'll have a great time and your grandson will love it, I'm sure

Shelly :-)

Totally agree with Shelly.

My sister just got back from GC with her 8 children and they spent most of their time swimming, snorkeling and suba diving (at least the 3 oldest ones that are certified) with their Dad.

As long as your child is doing these things with you and has your attention he will have a blast.

Some of the best times as a Father has been watching my children come out of the ocean from snorkeling yelling about some object or living creature they saw. Just writing this makes me want to go and look at flights....again.

Scubachar is right, Joe posted a greatlist of things to do.....In Georgetown near Fort St. is the Seaman's monument and Fort George that was built like 1790, has original cannon there. Also when heading out to Grand Harbour by Hurley's is the largest skate park in the world, Black Pearl Skate and Wave park. He might also like to go on the Atlantis and take a submarine ride which he can see out in Georgetown harbour. These are just a few things he might like to do.

Two of our grandsons live on Grand Cayman and the water is the big draw for them. They have "done" all the fun things, but the one they ask to return to most often is the Butterfly Farm. The Atlantis Submarine is also good, but that's a very special treat. It's different when you live there - the dollars don't flow quite as freely. Smile
