You will pass 3 very large grocery stores on your way to East End. 1. The Fosters immediately adjacent to the runway. 2. The Hurley's in Grand Harbour. 3. The newer Fosters in Savannah.

All three offer a wide selection. It's up to you if you want to bring food in, but the only deciding factor should be cost, not availability.

We normally just pack drinlk mix, pasta, etc. Easy stuff. You can get what you need there. It is interesting though, we went to Fosters last year an in the process of looking around saw some watermellons that looked pretty good. 24 bucks CI! Needless to say, we did not buy one. In contrast, several years ago during the "Mad Cow" scare, we loaded up on steaks. Maybe 1.50/lb CI. Now that cows are no longer crazy, prices have probably gone up

there is also a small express Fosters across from the Reef/Morritts-- so that' shouldn't be far from where you're staying. We stay near Rum Point and use that for things that we need to pick up during the week. There is not that much meat or produce there--but they do have a few items.

You can get just about everything at the big grocery stores--sometimes I bring spices so that I don't have to buy them--security did carefully scrutinize them this year--I probably shouldn't have brought them on my carry on---who knows what they thought those little leafy things were.

The big stores do have everything. We bring lots of little packets of ketchup, mustard, mayo, & pickle relish. And we also pack the sides of pasta and mashed potatoes. A box of cereal, that was packed in the outside of the suitcase, and was crushed, and the Special K's are not pretty small, but still taste the same. We also brought a little package of little packets of salad dressing. Oh, and we bring mixed nuts, jerky, Jif to go peanut butter. We didn't bring any pasta this time, forgot it. Went to the grocery store yesterday, spent $75 US, and got a lot of stuff. Water, 3 2L of pop, apples, lettuce, chicken, milk, lunch meat, cheese, sausage, and some other stuff. Didn't seem to bad.

We too are staying at the East End. From what research I've been able to do I found that there are two main grocery chains. One is Foster's and one is Hurley's. From what I've read Hurley's is the one that has more choice and more selection (Boar's head meats!). We'll be bringing very few staple items except for tea bags and sweetner.

Fosters is also a huge store with many selections--we've always been happy with what we got there. The Fosters in Savannah is past Hurleys on your way to East End. (Fresh fish, fresh meat, produce, baked goods etc) There is also a fosters near the Airport, but it's very crowded in that area. We liked the Savannah store--not too busy.

We are coming to Grand Cayman next week and are considering packing one suitcase with just food, given that everything is SO expensive there. We don't plan on bringing fruit or meat or anything like that, just bread, pb&j, canned stuff, cookies, etc, just stuff to make basic meals with when we aren't going out to eat. My question is- are there any restrictions in terms of bringing food onto the island like this?

You should be fine.......the "official"rules are that you only bring in what you can consume during the week. They just want to be sure that you're not going to sell what you bring in to the Cayman residents.

I'm sure you won't have any problem, but be sure to claim all of it on your Customs form.

There is also a new warehouse store (think Sam's Club type) with items at exellent prices also.

We used to packed a box or two of those snacky and dry good things each year also but now with the airlines charging for every bag we found that by the time you paid the airline, lugged the extra box or two around, tipped for the extra bag or two it was no longer worth it.

Now we just to there and get our noodles, canned goods and snacks for the week and have a much more relaxed travel portion of our trip (no crunched boxes, items that opened during the flight, etc)

Also a good meal tip is look at the Deli in Fosters - there is always a good inexpensive meal you can get right from there instead of eating out OR cooking Very Happy

Fosters has good rotisserie chicken....a great and reasonable meal.

We also used to bring stuff down with us, but now we just buy what we need. I might throw a few snacks in if there's room or just to sustain us if our flights are delayed

Have a great trip

Shelly :-)
