Normally, Cayman Airways flys twice a week to Chicago in the winter months. Does anyone know if they will be resuming service this December?

I just looked at that link......I posted in 2007. With airlines, it's anyone's guess.....it will be interesting to see what Jan. of '09 brings. Predictions are not good with airlines. Sad situation.....wondering what spring plans will bring........so happy now we booked a fall trip to another favorite island.

Hi Everyone,

I called Cayman Air today 8/18/08 and as of today the seasonal Chicago Service has not been decided for Dec through March. They told me to check back within 4-6 weeks and they should know something.

Regards, Swanny

How do they expect people to make their reservations if they don't post their schedule until so late in the year. We go every year, and would never think of waiting so long to make our reservations. Usually we have to wait for our son's reservations, because I am never sure of his schedule....but if you are planning on going over the holidays it would be pretty risky to wait around for them to set their schedule. And if you have to fly another carrier over the holidays, the prices have just gone up and up.

Oh well, that's my opinion---and though it was really nice the time we flew nonstop from chicago--there weren't too many people on the plane and I could see why they would discontinue the route.

Shelly :-)

We've spoken to several different folks a CAL over the past few weeks, and have heard to same thing from all of them: CAL will resume ORD/GCM flight in December, if no late November. I know that doesn't help you and your family, Shelly, since you need to make reservations for that busy time in December. We don't go until after the new year, and flights are not as expensive.

I have also been told that CAL will resume service to and from Chicago this winter ... Thank goodness. A nonstop flight can't be beat, especially on such a friendly carrier.

Tracy,
For a summer flight, don't even begin looking until 3 months before your departure date!

Tracy - I don't know what airport that you're flying out of, but I did a search on Orbitz from DFW to GCM and it was about $619 per person. That was July 12-19 (Sunday to Sunday). If you're getting charged $7K to get there, unless you're flying like 12 people out there, I would definitely shop around.

MadtownTim,

We will be flying out of DFW. I am having a travel agent look for me. Could that be my first mistake? I am including Hotel stay as well. Comfort Suites or Treasure Island. Even on Orbitz, when adding that all together its still alot more than I want to pay. Its for 5 people, 2 adults, 3 kids...

Tracy - I hadn't figured in the hotel stay as well.

You can save some money by doing the leg work yourself, but yeah, when you start figuring in the hotels the numbers start growing quickly. Especially when you're going through a travel agent as they need to make their money also. Smile

Good luck on finding your vacation at your price. It's too bad things have gotten so bad with the airline industry. But, everyone's got to get their money also. Very Happy

MadtownTim,

Our agent did our first trip to Cayman and it went so smoothly, so I figured to let her do it again. She'll get me a good deal,I hope. She is a Cayman addict as well, so she knows how important it is to us. I'll need all the luck I can get! Confused Confused

tracya

We know someone who goes to Buenos Aires and last year his tickets were 800--this year it was going to be 5000!!!! Needless to say, he didn't go.

We do always book our tickets almost a year in advance, and I track them during the year and so far, I haven't seen them go down over the Christmas holidays---maybe in the summer, as Sue says, they go down because the flights are more empty.

check all the big online sites for prices.

Good Luck
Shelly :-)
