We fly American and my husband always brings his laptop in his backpack.

No problem--It goes through the security screening--in the old days you used to have to boot it up, but that is no longer the case.

I've never had a problem, either.... in the U.S. or Cayman Islands. You will have to take it out of the carrying case before sending it through the x-ray machine... which won't hurt it. Don't take it through the walk-through screeners, though... they use electro-magnetic waves, which can change things inside.

Some U.S. airports have free wireless internet available in the terminal, but in the Cayman airports it isn't free!

Really Brakker----I didn't know that. We could have been surfing while we had our 3 hour delay in GC this year--who knew?

shelly,

Wireless internet service is available at Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac airports... unless they have discontinued it. (Not likely). When it was initiated, they even had signs posted outside the terminal telling about it, but I don't remember seeing any outside signs the last time through. Be sure your wireless switch is "on". You will have to use your credit card to pay. I was surprised when they made it available on the Brac... we're kinda small, you know.

rahkonenj,

I've never used the service at the Cayman airports, so I can't help you on the charge for use. I'm sure the charge will be specified before you log on. For the record, home service for dsl here runs $40 CI ($48 US) per month.

Here's some information on the hotspots that I found online (there are a bunch of them around the island.

Need access to a Cable & Wireless HotSpot?

"Cable & Wireless offers two types of Prepaid cards HotSpot cards.

Below you will find information on both of the Cable & Wireless HotSpot PrePaid Cards.

The 1 hour Prepaid HotSpot card provides an hour of Internet access at any Cable & Wireless HotSpot for only $6.00

Card expires 120 days after initial login.

The DayPass Prepaid HotSpot card provides 24 hours of Internet access at any Cable & Wireless HotSpot for only $9.99

You will need a login ID and Password in order to login to a Hot Spot.

HotSpot prepaid cards have a login ID and password under the scratch-off panel

Or you can login to a HotSpot using your existing C&W dialup or ADSL login ID

P.S. One of the places to purchase the cards is at the grocery store.

Are you thinking about the new laptop battery rules? Lithium ion batteries?

You can't put extra batteries in your checked luggage, but you can put them in your carryon..
