Only a few more weeks and we will be there. We need to buy some new luggage for the trip.

Anyone have the hard-sided polycarbonate plastic luggage? What do you think of it and does it hold up better under the airline abuse.

Also wondering if anyone had experience loosing their luggage on they way to Cayman. We have to connect through Charlotte on USair and were wondering how long it might take to get our bags should one get lost.

Well, arizona1... The last flight I made from the Brac to Indianapolis (on American), my bag went to Ft. Worth/Dallas, but it caught up with me the next day. Have had bags from Grand Cayman to the Brac get delayed until the next flight, but not often. (Cayman Airways) Good luck!

No experience with the hard luggage. Whatever you use, I recommend marking it so it can be seen easily at the baggage claim.

We have gotten into the habit, over the years, of packing a change of underwear, toothbrush and a bathing suit in our carry ons. We haven't had our luggage delayed in many years---but it has happened. I wouldn't worry about it but we thought that as long as we had our bathing suits we were set.

Sorry, can't help you with the luggage question. It is not unusual for something to need repair on our soft luggage by the time we get home.

Arizon1.

Hi, the hard sided luggage does hold up very well. We have cases that have survived over 20+ years as we travel all over the world. A word of warning, choose the sizes with caution as these bags are heavier than the soft sided suitcases and therefore you can easily get the case to be over the 50 pound weight limit.

Also, get a strap to go around the case.................it will keep the case from snapping open if something happens to the lock.

Enjoy your trip.

I have found that even the soft-sided cases with wheels are pretty heavy. (At least ours are) We have to be careful so that we don't get over the weight limit also! I used to love those lightweight huge lark suitcases without wheels-----but they got pretty heavy when they were packed full too----but we got a lot in them. I used to pack clothes for 2 kids for 2 weeks in 1! Now it seems that I can barely make it for a weekend in 1.

In my experience, I have found that the best way to make sure that our luggage gets where we're going is to get to the airport early. We usually go for 2 weeks, so we've never had a problem with spending an extra hour or so at the airport. Wink

Thanks for the feedback. A few pieces of clothes in the carryon sound like a good idea.

We just traveled to GC from DFW Oct. 6th on US Airways thru Charlotte. I was very nervous about only having 45 minutes for a layover. Of course, we were 35 minutes late getting into Charlotte. We ran to our gate and made it just in time. Our luggage DID NOT!!

We were told that they would try to put it on the next days flight but it arrived at our condo about 8:00 p.m. the same day.

BTW, Charlotte airport is lovely. We had a 4 hour layover on the way home. Customs was a breeze and the restaurants were great. Good luck!

We have a 6 hour layover in Charlotte before our flight to GC. Hopefully enough time to let our luggage make the plane. Maybe get a day pass to the airline club to hang out somewhere a little more comfortable.
