When packing meat/chicken in a cooler to bring in can you use dry ice?? What do you reccomend to keep our stuff from being unedible after our 6+ hour jaunt to GC?? Also, is it $35 per person or $35 per adult. Would our 3 kids count as people??

Leave the meat at home, and buy it from the stores in GC. Why risk losing your initial investment because your cooler was opened during security checks? It is really not worth the hassle.

So your saying it's not cost effective to buy it in bulk?? There are 11 people. I was going to buy a bunch of meat, with that many people we were looking to save a buck Laughing

I'd have to agree with NSS. I wouldn't risk losing all that meat if some TSA agent or baggage handler decides to take a look/see and doesn't close your cooler properly.

Besides, IIRC, there is a limit on how much dry ice you can use and that may or may not be enough for the quantities you are briniging in.

Too many variables to risk it, but its JMHO and YMMV......

I also don't bring in meat anymore---but when I did I put it into the cooler frozen solid and the only time I had problems was when our luggage didn't arrive until the next day. There were a few things I had to throw out--hamburger patties, I think. But the rest of the stuff survived. However, that was in a different time, and no one was probably opening our luggage.

Our friends took a huge cooler when they went to Little Cayman and they had no problems.

I'm sure you would save some money---but you'll have to decide if it's worth it.

Shelly :-)

I believe that Fosters has a website and you can check their weekly prices there. oops I just went to check it out and this weeks specials link doesn't seem to be working. The only one you can look at is their monthly 2 day special and there is not that much there. I have found that certain things don't seem that much more.....but you need to shop carefully. I saw that they had romaine lettuce on sale for less than I pay at home.....but you have to remember that the prices are in CI so if it's the same as at home, that's about 25%---I try not to think about that!!!!!!

Hi

Just checked the Fosters website again and you can now access the weekly specials. That will give you an idea of the prices.

I'm not saying that all the prices are that good, but I've bought salmon down there pretty reasonably--you'll just have to be a good shopper (just like at home).

I am travelling with my parents next year to Grand Cayman. They are wondering if they can bring a cooler full of their soy burgers? Is that allowed or would they have to buy it down there? Does the Cayman Islands have very many veggie products? Thanks, Justin

Hi

They could bring those soy burgers I would guess, just like any other burgers.

I don't know how much vegetarian stuff is in the stores--maybe a vegetarian will answer you.....

but I do know that the stores are huge and very well stocked. You could always call Fosters and see if this is something that they carry.
