My husband and I have had only great experiences with Spirit and Cayman Air, his 40th. b-day is coming up May 2008 and it's my treat for our Cayman trip (we've been there at least half dozen times already). I want to book us to fly back in 1 day-we live in Oregon and checking flights from GCM to PDX, I found pretty decent deals. However, never having flown Delta, USAir or United, I was hoping someone could give me some insight as to their own experience? Anything would be greatly appreciated!

We flew US Air from DTW to GCM and back, connecting in Charlotte. It was a good experience, (as much from avoiding Miami as anything) and we'd be happy to fly US Air again.

So far I've only flown Continental (from Newark) and US Air (from Philly), both non-stop. I've had generally good experiences with both.

The Continental flight took off and landed on time but we were stuck at GCM for 90 minutes waiting for luggage and standing in line for Immigration/Customs. That's because four planes landed within a few minutes of each other and our luggage was unloaded dead last (of course).

The US Air flight on the way down did take off 90 minutes late (Pilot was late from another flight) and the plane landed GCM an hour late. But since we were the only plane arriving at that later time we zipped through Immigration, baggage and Customs in 10 minutes flat. On the return trip our US Air flight departed 20 minutes late but landed 30 minutes early Confused What's up with that!

Up until this last trip, we have always flown Continental from Newark...............sometimes non stop, other times via Houston. This time, as Delta was offering such good deals, we flew Delta via Atlanta.

Atlanta is a big airport but easy to navigate. The only delay we had was on the return journey, we got to Atlanta early but then mother nature intervened and the airport had to be shut down. Delta did a GREAT job once the airport re-opened to get almost all flights out again.

We are flying USAir this fall from Phoenix through North Carolina and got some really good prices through one of the travel websites. You probably won't get a good price through their website.

I fly USAir alot and the flights are usually OK. They fly alot of Airbus aircraft ( bus is an appropriate portion of the name ) which are noisy and have poor seats. If you can stay away from flights that use the A319 or A320 planes, those are the worst.

Also, stay away from connections through Philly, this is where you stand a good chance of losing your luggage or getting stuck in a plane on the taxi way for 6 hours.

I have flown US Air, United and Delta.

I chose Delta this time since it connected in Atlanta as opposed to a connecting flight in Miami.

It was our first experience with Delta, since we always have direct flights and I must admit Delta has become my new favorite. I was more impressed with the staff than I was with United and just recently I've had a problem with United with a cancellation. Not happy with them....I was told I had up to 24 hours before the flight to cancel......that was misinformation. It was a non-refundable flight.

We used Continental in May. On time, no problems. Hub was Newark. The airport is huge. But they have those m oving walkway things and a train that connects their terminals.

We have used many combinations of airlines/connections/hubs etc to get to GC and the only good way to get there is flying direct. I've had good and bad experiences with every major carrier. I just chalk it up to particular situations. They know you can't drive there so they gotcha.

BTW, when I had good knees, I used to love to run down those moving walkway thingys as fast as I could. Always made me feel like I was goin' a million miles an hour.... ottahere

Just wanted to say 'thanks' to everyone for your input. I just have to decide which carrier has the best deal...so far - Delta is the winner.

Thanks everyone spin
