As a wedding gift we received new luggage- all of it black. Lol. We are looking for some ideas on how to decorate the luggage to make it easy to spot as we travel. So I thought I would ask to see what kinds of things you all use to make it easier to pick out your baggage at the carousel. She had considered lime duct tape; but was not sure how it would hold up after a couple of trips.

Congratulations on your marriage and a good wish for many happy years. We have been married for 40 and have used bright colored tape for all those years - and are only on our second set of luggage but have had many happy travels. I don't think it's duct tape, but it's sturdy tape and lasts. I used to put just our last initial on, but now I've gone to an asterisk and another strip on the top of the bag. They also sell bright colored handle wraps that can work. I know I've seen them at Target.

Have a wonderful honeymoon.

Hi Husker! My wife ties bright multicolor ribbon around the handles of our ALL BLACK luggage. You can spot ours from the other luggage merry go round!

Thanks PRT- Congrats on the 40 years! We have only been together five total.

Squid- I suggested the ribbon- so now she wants to get ribbons to match her lime green duct tape. She says it's fate because the color is "island green"

I now have red luggage, but when I was using the black stuff, I plastered them with Heinekin labels. Just a thought.

I purchased some inexpensive bright yellow things that you wrap around the suitcase handle and they velcro on---thought they might fall off, but amazingly they've made quite a few trips and they're all still with us.

I found them in some catalog.

Before that I used some red curling ribbon--it's probably still on our suitcases too,

Shelly :-)

There's something to be said for ugly luggage - you do see it on the carousel and get through Customs first. We were behind a girl flying out of St. Maarten this past October and her luggage was beyond fuschia. It was really "eye catching." Her friends were teasing her - and we chimed in - but that girl got her bags before any of our tasteful black and decorated items were claimed.

We use neon luggage straps with metal buckles. I flew to DC 7 years ago as a chaperone with 12 junior high students and new luggage. After arriving everyone had their suitcase but me...... looking around a spotted 1 lowly piece of luggage sitting in the corner, taped back together with bits and pieces of clothing sticking out of the sides, MINE. You should have seen me trying to drag this thing thru the subway... up and down the stairs. Since then I use these luggage straps, don't get plastic latches, so even if my luggage gets busted up again I can still keep it together and I also use packing cubes... esp with all the inspections they do these days. Don't really like them digging thru the unmentionables . Diana

My 14 year old and I just got back from a week in Harrisburg, PA and it was amazing how many black pieces of luggage have bright colored ribbon on them. We bought her some new luggage as she will be traveling a lot this summer and it is black so what she did was take some bright colored fabric and made a square and then embroidered her name (my wife is a sewing machine nut Razz ) and number on it. Then tied it on her luggage handle with neon ribbon....it worked.

We were standing at the carousel that we were told to by airline worker and what was posted on the signs(along with everyone else from our flight) and it was taking an unusually long time so my daughter glanced around and saw here custom tag a couple of carousels over. We headed over and pulled our luggage off...bout that time they made an announcement and we were almost trampled by our fellow travelers... spin

You all have such great ideas...

sm--especially clever! ---Kudos to your wife

dsellers--what are packing cubes?

Our last trip I tried those bags that compress your stuff--but the ziplock feature didn't hold up....though I could still squish some of the air out and it did take up less space.

However, the airlines are getting so sticky about weight limitations, there is only so much you can put into a good size suitcase and not be overweight.

Shelly :-)

I found these luggage tags at Wal Mart that are neon green and orange and yellow and are round smiley faces. and you can put your information on the back with permananty marker. Also I have palm tree luggage. For those of you who know me this is not a huge surprise but unfortunately the largest piece is still not big enough so I still have to resort to the good old black pieces for our gear and larger stuff.

Hi Everyone,

We bought a collection of stencils of fish and other sealife and painted the shapes onto all sides of our luggage. It is unique and we can spot ours a mile away.

hmmmm how to describe packing cubes..... sorta like smaller soft sided suitcase that zips of velcros shut. Bad example, but they let you keep lots of little things toghether. There are all different sizes. Don't know if I can post the name of companies so I won't but google it, I really like them Diana
