What to Bring Checklist

Everyone, please feel free to add to this. Things you were glad you brought or things you wished you brought once you arrived.

Things to Bring:

? Passport or Original (embossed) Birth Certificate and Drivers License

? Plane Tickets

? Credit Cards

? Cash/Travelers Cheques

? Diving Certification Card

? Camera/Video (or get great deals on them here) idea

? Film

? CD/DVDs

? Swim Wear

? Shorts

? At least one nice change of clothes for that "special" night out

? Board games/cards

? Medications (be sure they are in the original bottle with your name prescribed by your doctor)

? Glasses

? Dive/Snorkel gear

? Hat

? Sunglasses

? Cell Phone

? If on cruise - Print out Activity Guide coupons and maps idea

? ONE bottle of wine or spirits

? Up to 10 packs of cigarettes

? Beach towels

? Zip lock baggies

? Shaving/Makeup kits

? Female necessities

? Mosquito repellant

? Lip Sunscreen

? First aid kit/Dive aid: Aloe gel ? Star Otic (ears) ? Sudaphed ? Band Aids, etc.

? Reading glasses

? Good book to read while laying in a hammok on the beach

? A BIG BAG TO KEEP STUFF IN

Nautilas cottage. With the help of my friends Beth and Frank Roulstone. Staying with them for years. Started with Mrs. Dorothy Roulstone, bless her.

I tried to hard to find a job and live in the CI. But no avail.

Love talking to anyone about the islands. Would love to know more about the cleanup form Ivan. Live in FL and had fun with a few "H"'s but nothing like Ivan.

Check out the trip report and photography sections; there are lots of post-ivan pictures and updates there. Things are getting pretty much back to normal, at least from a visitor standpoint.

We also will always bring, from now on, plenty of sunscreen and also something to keep mosquitos away (for night time, at the beach bar!). Actually, husband says if he just puts sunscreen on AT NIGHT, he's left alone also.....apparently I'm sweeter

no charge Joe. Oh, oh......thought of another one.....bring some kind of foldup bag that you can pack with souvenirs, rum and rum cakes!!!! Seriously, this is critical!

Joe,

I know you want to support the local economy as much as possible, as do we, but I was under the impression that you can bring in four litres of wine and one case of beer per person.

Also, you can bring in beef again. As long as it has the USDA stamp on the package. It is also a good idea to bring the receipt. Up to $35 per person is allowed. (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)

We do go out a lot and try and tip generously, so we aren't total cheapskates. wine

You are HARDLY a cheapskate........you're going back already and you just got home a little while ago!

Do you take wine down with you or were you just being helpful? I ask, because I'm a wino generally but rarely in Cayman. Also, I have a ton of work to do that I despise (computer crap) so I feel the need to ask ANYTHING that will keep me from having to do it. spin

We take a collapsible cooler and parafoil kites.

We also take Benadryl...for just in case. Aloe gel for burns is another good idea.

I usually bring one of those 3 liter wine-in-a-box. There are some decent ones available now. I like the Hardy's Chardonay. It's about $13 here in the Louisville are. This trip my sister the wine snob will be coming so I will have to get Kendall Jackson or something like that for a lot more, but much less than the $20 per bottle on the island.

. I'll combine some of that into a first aid/dive kit. Aloe gel is a good idea, it also grows wild all over the island. We planted a few pieces on our property a few years ago and now it's all over the place. Very Happy

Celine - I didn't add the bag because I had zip lock baggies in there. Ever try them? I never used to use them but my wife swears by them. She brings the large kind and we always end up filling them up whenever we travel: Shells, gifts, leftovers, you name it. They come in really handy. idea

Nancy/Celine, et.al. You ARE supporting the local economy just by coming. The average visitor spends over $2,000 with airfare, hotel, food, etc. Bringing a few things along like liquor and some other items that are costly here is not going to hurt anyone. Customs will allow you to bring in "Gifts" for people, so if they ask about anything, just say it is a gift. Wink

It could be a gift for anyone, so long as they did not ask you to bring it.

*** Funny, I still say "here" as if I were at home. I am actually typing this from our condo in Miami. :-D
