We are coming to Grand Cayman this April. However we are not divers! What kinds of things are there to do? Are there any boat trips that do not include diving or snorkelling?

Any help will be most appreciated.

Hi Sooty
We don't dive and still loves GC. Here are some of the things that we have done:
Take a drive around the island
Go to the Botanic Garden
Visit the blow holes
Go to Kaibo
Take a kayak tour
Take a trip to Sting Ray City--you could watch from the boat if you don't want to go into the water.
Tour Pedro St. James--birthplace of democracy in the Cayman Islands
Tour the Mission House in Boddentown.
Some people go fishing (not me)
Go on a guided hike of the mastic trail. (The tour guide is great)
There is a tour from Cayman Safari which I haven't been on, but sounds excellent.

Hope you have a great trip.

Shelly :-)

Thanks Shelly

You have given me lots of ideas.

Have a good vacation - I note you are off in 3 days! Smile

Welcome to the forum sooty Smile ,

Much of the attraction of the Cayman Islands is centered around water activities, but if that doesn't interest you, there are still other fun things to do and see. Joe, the administrator of this forum, has assembled quite a long list of things to do. Check it out

Also, just spend some time reading through the different sections of the forum, or look through the on-line version of the Activity Guide magazine, available here (click on "magazine" on the banner above).

I'm not sure what boat trip you could take that wouldn't include snorkeling, unless you take a Pirate Cruise. Or....you could go on Soto's Cruises to Stingray City (really a must-do in the Cayman Islands) and just not leave the boat. You'll still be able to enjoy the fun at the sandbar with all the rays! Just a thought.

Sooty...we are heading for our sixth visit with five of them coming in April. In addition to what Char and Shelly have told you, Boatswain's Beach and the Turtle Farm are also good places to visit. Trying to find the starfish at Kaibo is also another good adventure!

And always pickup a copy of the Cayman Acitivty Guide before you do anything!

Also took an interesting tour of the Blue Iguana recovery program at the Botanic Garden. It's at 11am daily except Sunday and takes about 90 minutes. The guide was excellent.

Then there's always our favorite: sitting on the beach and reading!

I keep on reading conflicting reports! Is the ferry to Rum Point running and if so where will I be able to find the timetable?

Also Kaibo has been suggested. What is this? Is there a charge?

Lots of questions I'm afraid!

When we were there in Jan. the Rum Point Catamaran was running on Wed and Sat. to bring people over to the restaurant for dinner. It does not run when the winds are above 15 knots and does not run to bring people over for day trips.

Kaibo yacht club is about a mile from Rum Point. They have a water taxi than you can hire. It's a little pricey unless you have a group. There is no charge to go to Kaibo on your own, except of course for the restaurant.

click for here for Kaibo information

Shelly :-)

Thanks for all your help, Shelly.

I take it from your reply about Kaibo that we can just turn up and use their beach and loungers etc and all we need do is buy a drink or two????? Smile

I cannot believe we will be there in just over three weeks!

Thanks again.

Sooty

Yes--to your Kaibo question. There are not a ton of loungers there, but I don't see many people using them.

The water there is not the beautiful caribbean blue that you will see at Rum Point. Not many people swim in the water at Kaibo---but the beach is great and food at Kaibo is very good--their french fries are the absolute best--I like their mahi sandwich too. Be sure to drive down to the end past kaibo and look for starfish (or did I mention this in a previous post?)

Hope you have a wonderful trip

Shelly :-)
