Hi all,
This is my first post here. I have been lurking and searching for a few days and have a couple questions. I did a search for July weather but got a ton of stuff back that had nothing to do with it. But I tried!

Ok, so we are looking for an end of July (last week) trip. I know the avg temps and rainfall, but I was more interesting in the winds.
As of now, we are looking to stay in the 7 mile beach area for convenience and snorkeling. But we saw some attractive places on the North side. We read some reviews on Activity Guide and folks said it was just too windy over there. Will it still be windy that time of year or do the winds shift?

Also, I know it is the 'off' season, but will places still be open 8 or 9 in the evening? I know it may be a silly question, but thinking of days without cruise ships will the stores after the ships leave?

Thank you for all the information I already had received and looking forward to checking this site for more information!

Thanks, Paul

HI PAUL!
From what I can tell the cruise ship all leave by 400-4:30 I dont see any ships scheduled for the 26th, 31st of July or August 1st at all in port.
As far as winds are concerned, I dont think they really are an issued anywhere on the island in July. I believe that winter months are hurricane season is the worst time for winds down there. Hopefully a professional will chime in for more details.
Whatever month or side of the island you choose, you will LOVE it there.
Keep us posted!

I think Hurricane season is July 1 - Nov. 30. It seems to me that there has been more activity in the fall than in the summer. If there is no hurricane it is less windy in the summer than in the winter.

Shelly :-)

Welcome to the forum pwiecki Smile,

I'm glad you found us and thank you for your nice words.

I don't know about winds in July, but I'll try to answer your question about the stores being open late. In Georgetown, I'm quite sure the stores are never open in the evening, and they might even close earlier if there are no ships in port. There are stores, however, all over the island....not just in Georgetown, but I'm not sure that many are open past 5:00 or 6:00 in the afternoon.

From most of the people that I know down on Grand Cayman say that the wind actually dies down considerably in the summer months and the water goes glass calm. One of my dive instructors once told that with the lack of breezes, it can get feel quite hot. He always said it was the worst time of year to lug around dive tanks! spin

Thank you all for your responses. I am gotten some quotes from places to stay here. I keeping wanting to stay on 7MB but like what place like sunset offer. We are snorkelers, and the winds and choppy water make that a little rough. Just so many great places--so little time and money!

We have yet to make that final decision and keep looking (and hoping airfare will go down).

We were there last July, and had no problem with the wind. we also did some snorkeling and the water was calm and clear. Shopping mainly did close by 6pm. Grocery stores stayed open later. Have a great trip.
