Hi all,
We are trying to decide between GC and Key West. Right now, everything is pointing to GC.
We are focusing on staying at the Marriott. We do not want to rent a car and we are curious what is within walking distance of the Marriott. Such as, good restaurants, sites, shopping, etc.
Does anyone know of a map that would show all of this?

Thanks

PS: Any thoughts of splitting a week's trip between GC and Little Cayman? Should we, or should we just stay at GC?

pokefan-72,

Welcome to the forum!!
There is a search button right below the web cam. Someone reminded me of it, its great! There you can run through different topics and maps of the island. We've stayed at the Comfort suites and walked pretty far up and down 7 mile beach. There are close restaurants to the Marriott. When we wanted to go anywhere else, we caught the bus and taxi's. Worked out great for us. But there are so many other options. The island is so wonderful as well as the locals. You will absolutley LOVE IT!!! This go around we will rent a car to stretch our legs out alittle further.

We live in Florida and often vist the Keys for long weekend getaways and we love it there. heart Even though there is only so much to see and do in the Keys. sun
We have also been to Aruba, Turks, Bahamas, Cosmel and several other Island Paradises. Parrot Palm fish3

But in 2006 we decided to try the Caymans for a week and ended up getting married down there. love

So its hard for me to explain what is it about the Caymans that make them so special, but we keep going back.
This May will be our 6th visit and we are so excited we cannot stand it. jump2

My advise to you is give the Caymans a try.... maybe then you will understand

Go to Grand Cayman!! The Marriott is in a great location, we most always stay in that area and when we do rent a car it sits in the parking lot for days on end, plenty to do within walking distance. If you need a car for a couple days, Andy's is right across the street.

I've been to Key West, and it is ideal if you want to drink, and drink ,,,, and drink some more!!... The beaches aren't nearly as good as Cayman, nor abundant, the water isn't the crystal clear blue that you get in Cayman ... and the diving and snorkeling isn't as good....

Given the choice, I think you will be happy if you chose Cayman ....

Have fun!

Welcome to the forum pokefan_72 Smile ,

I agree with Captain Jack! I would take Grand Cayman over Key West any day........not that I don't like Key West, cause I do, but there's just so totally different. Grand Cayman has so much more to offer!

The Activity Guide has some good maps......it you click on the Site Tour (up above, just below the banner at the top of this page) and then click on maps, you'll find maps for all over the island. Here's the one of 7 Mile Beach that shows the area around the Marriott

We own a timeshare that is in the same area as the Marriott and we just love it cause it is so close to so much. We always rent a car, but there are several good restaurants in walking distance....plus shops.

You know that you have to fly over to Little Cayman......not even sure how often the flights run. I guess if you do decide to go over there, I would recommend going over for at least two or three days, so you have time to get there and then just chill out and relax, without having to worry about traveling back right away. I guess I would save Little Cayman for your next trip and just spend your first week in the Caymans getting to know Grand Cayman. Just a thought...

We got married on a dock down in the east in at our resort, it was just the two of us there.
After we finished our vows, we both dove off the end of dock and swam to shore.
It was truly something we will remember forever, and so will every one else watching us from their balconies they all stood and applauded us clapping they had no idea we were going to jump in Smile

ds212,
I bet that was so much fun! What a memory to cherish forever. The crowd you all had I'm sure had just as much fun as you. How much did it cost you to have the ceremony? If you don't mind me asking.

Tracy

pokefan_72,

A few years ago we split our two-week vacation between a week on Cayman Brac and a week on Grand Cayman. It worked well, especially since we're divers. If you'd just be spending a day or two on Little Cayman, perhaps it'd be best to wait, but if you can give it several days it'd be worth it. If you don't dive, perhaps Cayman Brac might offer more to do that would Little Cayman.

Check out this for more info on lodging... http://www.caymanactivityguide.com/sisterislandlinks.htm.

Tracy,
The filing fees and the reverend preforming the ceremony really didn't cost anymore than it would in the states.
I really cannot remember how much it was. Confused
But the fun part was coming back into the US and changing my name with the SS office they were like "too cool, you got married in the Cayman Islands!"and gave me NO Problems to change it.
The drivers licence and banks on the other hand....... GOOD GRIEF! crazy
But it was all well worth it!

Tracy,
That does sound romantic to me too... heart But I bet if you wanted to just renew your vows, it wouldn't take any paperwork at all.
I know the minister that married us is absolutely wonderful, you'd love him. I can send you a PM if you want his name. I don't think I should mention his name on here.

But talk about romance, heck, when my husband tells me its okay to get on line and book our next trip to Caymans!
Thats enough love for me! hug

Tracy,
I tried to send you a private message, and it says I don't have privileges to send PM. So I better read up on what I am doing wrong here.
